02. Her insecurities are alluring.
"Who are you?", Alec asked .
Rayne stared at him thinking of a nice excuse, but her mind had firmly decided to block her out.
"She is a servant here, let's get back to our deal" James croaked in.
"A servant? With books? And brushes?" He narrowed his eyes, probably trying to extract answer, as if they were flowing in the air.
"Umm... not exactl-" James stared at his feet.
"Let her answer, Mr. Munroe. Who are you?", he asked for the second time.
She picked up her belongings, while earning stares which were filled with anger. After picking everything up, she stared at the man whose expression lurked signs of amusement with a big invisible question mark.
"I am a teenager", Rayne replied out loud and ran upwards.
How cute, he thought .
Everybody knew that it was a stupid reply, a thing which was clearly classified by her looks.
James was furious by now. He was thinking of a nice punishment. He had a misconception that her daughter had messed up his reputation. Little did he know that Alec found Rayne absolutely insecure and regarded her act as cute .
Chasity entered the scene, wearing a short dress with heels as long as Eiffel Tower .
By now they had finished their deal, which went on peacefully. The deal cleared that Alec was required in Milauje¹ and should work in collaboration with Chad, who happens to be James's bogus eldest son. And the profit earned shall be distribution in an equal proportion.
"Chasity, ah, finally. We were waiting for you" James snickered. "Alec, this is my daughter, you can go to Milauje with her."
"Good", Alec sounded a little disappointed. Girls like Chasity were what he had around him every time . He wanted a change but, as the deal was finally signed by everybody's agreement, he couldn't deny anything.
"Hi dad!", a manly voice called out.
" Ah, Ian meet Alec, Alec meet Ian, my second eldest son",James introduced both of them.
"So you are the one going to Milauje? And Chasity is going with you? " Ian asked and earned two simple nods which meant yes for an answer.
" Why don't you take Rayne with you? She wanted to go to Milauje ." Ian questioned and ran upstairs before James could interrupt.
Ian was the only one, who cared about Rayne. He tried to fulfil every responsibility of a big brother.
" Ray! I have good news for you." He called.
" What?" Rayne opened the door.
" Remember you told me that you wanted to go to Milauje to attend book fair and music festival", Ian muttered out, in a single breathe .
"Yeah? "
" Then come down! ",before she could protest he grabbed her hand and literally dragged her to the drawing room.
Everybody snapped their heads in the direction of the two siblings.
" This is Rayne", Ian announced.
Alec listened closely as Ian spoke. He registered the name, Rayne, in his mind. She was different than any other girl, that came into Alec's notice.
"What will she do in Milauje?", James asked with gritted teeth. This idea didn't seem right to him. He could've stop this but, there were guests in the same room, and this held him back.
"She wants to go to Milauje book fair and Music festival", Ian informed .
"She wants to attend a book fair? And a music festival?", Alec started, "Didn't know you cared so much about servants."
It was clear that he was trying to reach to the roots, it was hard lumps of soil that hampered him.
"Servant? Who? Rayne? " the caring brother joined the strings together and as his mind suggested him that the gang leader just related his sister to a servant. He immediately shook the thought away and answered in a cool tone, " she is my sister ."
And there, the secret James was trying to keep was now spilled out and it stood as vibrant as oil on water .
"Why were you hiding her from me? ", Alec asked .
This is one heck of a day, Rayne thought.
