16. Her gift is unexpected.

"This is your room", Alec opened the guest room door for Rayne.

"Thanks", was all she muttered and in the next second Alex disappeared.

They all were now in Alec's house, which was more like a mansion.

The book fair was on Wednesday and today was Monday.

For the book fair, she needed to write three book reviews as for participating in a competition. Therefore she made herself busy and contented herself with summaries.

She sighed as she finished the second book, now there was only one left.

She wanted to write the book review of ' A tale of two cities' by Charles Dickens.

She slurred downstairs and saw Alec and Chasity sitting on the sofa watching TV and making out and decided not to disturb them by asking for permission.

She slid outside and more to surprise she actually was familiar with Milauje, and found a book store and purchased the book she wanted.

On the way, she found an old lady selling flowers in an old dwelling shop which looked dull.

"Good evening ma'am how can I help you?", the old lady asked.

"Umm...can you give me that cactus?", Rayne asked.

" Cactus?"

" Yeah."

" Very different choice, I must say.", the old lady smiled. " That would be 500."

Rayne gave the bill and muttered ," Thanks ."

Cactus was a very weird choice for a plant. She was intended to gift it to someone. That someone was none other than, Alec.

She wanted to say thanks for that night but she couldn't. So she decided that leaving a plant with a thank you note stuck to it would be great.

Out of all the other flowers and plants, she chose cactus because it was the only one which requires less maintenance.

She knew Alec wouldn't water it everyday. Darn, she didn't even know that he would accept her gift or not.

She reached to her guest room, somehow by hiding the cactus on the way.

She grabbed a sticky note and wrote:

Thank you,
-R

She stuck it to the red pot and slowly slipped downstairs.

She knew Alec's room as earlier today she saw him going in.

She gathered all her confidence and guts and walked into his room.

To her relief he wasn't there. So she sat the cactus pot on a table across his bed.

Just as she was about to leave she heard footsteps approaching the room. Her heart beat quickened and she looked here and there to find a place to hide.

She quickly hid behind the curtains.

Oh my god, what will happen if he finds me? I will be doomed. Oh! What a stupid brain I have. I shouldn't have bothered so much about a small thank you, she rambled on and on in her mind until she heard the door being open.

Footstep echoed even loudly in her ears.

Alec sighed as he dumped himself into the bed, which was comfortable. He switched on the lights and the first thing he noticed was the unexpected cactus, sitting on the table.

He moved there and picked it up, examining every spine of it, when he saw the note.

'Thank you -R.', he read silently in his mind.

"Who is this R?", he mumbled to himself. " What sort of person would chose a cactus? "

Rayne mentally slapped herself for choosing a cactus .

He sighed again and moved closer to the window to close the curtains.

She closed her eyes as she heard footsteps like they are just near her ears. Everything was such a unreal reality.

He grabbed the curtains and whizzed them.

"Rayne?", he gushed .

She opened her hazel eyes to meet with a pair deep brown eyes.

"I am sorry for sneaking in. I am going. Sorry.", she said so quickly that he didn't even catch anything.

She literally flung to the other end when his deep husky voice stopped her .

" Wait."

She looked towards him and gulped in a lump of embarrassment and fear.

I am doomed, she thought .
