Chapter 38

38. Her hope is demulsified.

"What?-", Caden couldn't believe his senses as he talked through the phone,"come again."

The person on the other end of the phone line, sighed and delivered all he knew about the marriage. Unaware of the fact that Caden had betrayed Freddy's gang, he told him the venue and time of the wedding.

"Okay", Caden said, "Thanks, Jim. I gotta go now. Bye."

The other person involved over the phone call-Jim, bid his bye and hung up the call.

Caden gulped a non-existent lump of anxiety down his throat and turned to the three: Amanda, Ian and Alec, they were looking like the squad members on the group ready-to-absorb-everything.

"What did he say?", asked Amanda.

"Rayne's wedding ceremony would have started by now. I know the venue." Caden replied.

"Let's go then.", Ian suggested.

They all were settling in the car when Caden noticed a heartbroken Alec. Alec was deeply moved, he didn't know what to do. And hearing that the wedding ceremony would've started his condition was on the verge of falling. Every bit of misery his heart and mind dealt with was evident on his face.

Caden felt guilty and in accord to convince Alec that everything would be okay, he place a hand on Alec's shoulder and muttered,"I have this feeling that everything is going to be okay, Alec. Trust me, we still have a chance."

Something in Alec snapped at Caden's words. He was furious at the time, at the situation. His nerves and face muscles started to twitch with anger and agony.

"Okay!? It is going to be okay? That son of a bitch would have married her by now. He would've kissed her by now. My Rayne, he would've kissed her. I wanted to be the one to do that. What did she ever do to deserve any of this!?", Alec's voice was filled with poignancy and it fluctuated to wrath at instances. "And you say it is gonna be okay! Not it's not! You don't know this, you don't understand. Ian has Amanda and you, you also got your love but me, oh heck-leave me. What about Rayne!?"

"Alec, calm down. Please sit in the car." Amanda tried to calm Alec down.

"Yes, we need to get there fast. Caden will drive." Ian announced.

Alec shoved all the sympathetic touches and words from his shoulder and sat on the passenger seat. Empathy was much needed trait than sympathy right now.

Caden drove as fast as he could but seeing the fact that the car couldn't move at the speed of light, it still took them hours to reach the venue.

As soon as the car came to a halt, all the four rushed out of it only to see everyone already packing up.

Alec could feel his eyes condensing moisture. He could see every worker packing back the wedding stuff.

Everything was over, it seemed like it.

But after collecting himself and still in the hope that Rayne would be inside, he proceeded inside the building.

"Look, the lover boy is here! ", a voice cooed in the background.

Alec turned around only to find Vince smirking. He got irritated and a cold expression swarmed on his face.

"Where is Rayne? ", Alec asked.

Vince shrugged his shoulders and raised an eyebrow, appraising a look that clearly said he didn't know.

"Stop messing around, Vince.", Alec shot Vince a dead pan look.
