And Cable's face revile did show
Befriending fam'ly's less his goal
Than guarding such from wrath of men
Who sure to death their kind would send.On face of maid he also sees
Request does grant her little ease.
Yet still in spite of all these thought
By feudal code his will is wroughtTo heed the words an elder speak
And comfort older one does seek
To willing lend 'lest lent to foe
To aid yet others chilv'ry's goal.So in he slowly moves his legs
To do as elder woman begged.
Through house he goes inside he spies
Yet many younger maiden lied.Who bare a face that sim'lar looks
To elder maid who house forsook.
And deep in midst on bed their stayed
An elder woman near to graveWho's week in form but strong in mind
With eyes that deep with humor shine."I see the man who guards our home
And many roads in life has roamed
To find his way inside this room
As fate that's grant by lending boonI bid you grant me name you own
So widow thanks the man who loaned
His aid to those inside the place
Who guards our house with fervored haste."And man reluctant told his name
To one who's aid he current deigns."My present liege my feudal law
I'll tell the name I bid you call
In any need or discontent
But cry these words and man is sentTo lend his aid whatever be
The thing that madams words decree."And woman raised her brow at man
Who brief before her presence stands"A lordly manner bears our guest
Who present hour all invests
To guard our life and keep us safe
From mischief caused by fiendish wrath.Who might yet dare beset our hold
A very sage and noble goal
Yet still I wonder road your took
When noble halls you sure forsookTo find yourself in such a place
For one of rank a sure disgrace?"And man now spoke but heeded not
To deign disgrace she surely thought
That such his acts on head might bring
Or any knightly disgrace deemedBy fact of place he current held
Though lowly place the peasants dwelled."No great disgrace I current hold
But merely seek to keep my goal
And hold the honor rank demands
Regardless place I current stand. For honors held by men not hold
No matter wealth they claim in gold."And hearing words she higher turns
To man who name of warrior earned.
And thanks him well for words he spoke
Assuring man no valors brokeBut kept in higher 'mount by act
Of guarding lower men with tact."Not lower hold we man at time
Nor hold he any lofty bind
He's broke by goodly deed he works
To guard us folk from bandits hurt. But let our act assure where words
On doubting ears may fall unheard
And stay and sup with all my kin
That man may better guard in endThe things we hold from fellows wrath
And act as ward along our paths"
