To cries of anger cable jolt
And up from bed the warrior bolts.
To grab his sword before he leaves
Thus going forth as duty heedsThus gave by feudal oaths he swore
To use his skill and edge of sword
Protecting those he's bound to serve
No matter path on which they spur.So out to town the warrior flies
To go to place the anguish lies.
And see if man can lend his aid
Perhaps to save someone from grave. And all around a hut they stand
Where warrior's kept the hunting man
Who hurt their ally deep in woods
When man in search for friend was stood.Below them hold they girl by hair
And work to harm a maiden fair.
For crime they thought the girl had done
When binds of thief were quick unspun. The quick to side does cable fly
Undoing grasp on girl they lied."Dishonor deigns a strangest course
To work you all to allies worse
Does chivl'ry bid not softer art
When rousing selves to jailer's partAgainst the fairer sex no less?
Are all yet stood not up to test?
Of rising up to dame's defense
What trouble bares this rabble hince?"Then forth from group a stranger came
With angry words that spoke his claim."When up we rose at crack of dawn
When after sleeping great and long
Throughout the night as proper folk
Not up at time when thieves are wokeWe found the pris'ner born away
Inside the night no longer laid
In shack yet bound as night before
For man succeeded scaping chore.Yet sure by hand of someone's help
Inside these walls that long have dwelt.
This girl we found yet near this place
That worked in very frenzied haste. We deem it strange so soon she rose
And such a path at time yet chose."But quickly girl her words no spoke
And forth in fray the peasant broke."My words as well as deeds were pure
I sought to help and lend a cure
To mother ill who long has dwelled
Alone by self I fetched from wellSome water brought from distant pond
To aid her health and make her strong.
Alone with little siblings lived
This labor hard we all are give. For long ago our father died
And all alone we present bide."Now Cable held a slight suspect
That woman thief had sure abet
But still no vengeance man abides
By code he's bound and mob defies.Though grieved by fact the hunter fled
Yet far in night from shacks he's led.
But still he speaks to save her life
From men who wish to wage their strife."No courtly law or princely words
The death of maid at present stir
Instead to Kelan all go
To know what justice man does goad."And forth from place they take her fast
So will of man her fate can cast.
