The next day, Thomas went to the police station in the village to give a statement and to speak to Miss O'Brien. He needed to know why she had done this to his daughter.
When he saw Miss O'Brien, he was filled with anger and disgust. He couldn't believe that she would do something so cruel and heartless.
"Why did you do it?" he asked.
Miss O'Brien looked at him with a cold stare. "I did it because I wanted to hurt you," she said spitefully.
Thomas felt a surge of anger rise within him. How could someone be so selfish and evil? He couldn't help but lash out at her.
"You've hurt an innocent baby," he said, his voice shaking with emotion. "Look at her. Look at what you've done."
Miss O'Brien just sneered at him. "It serves you right," she said. "You always thought you were better than everyone else. Now you know what it feels like to suffer."
Thomas felt like he was going to explode with rage. He couldn't believe that someone could be so callous and cruel. As he walked away from the police station, Thomas felt a mix of emotions. He was relieved that Miss O'Brien had been caught, but he was still angry and heartbroken about what had happened to his daughter. He knew that he had a long road ahead of him, trying to come to terms with what had happened and helping his daughter heal from her injuries.

That afternoon as he was sat in his rocking chair Thomas couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt wash over him. He had failed to protect her from harm, and now she would have to bear the physical scars of his failure for the rest of her life.
Looking down at her, he could see the mark on her cheek more clearly in the daylight. It was small now, but he knew it would grow and become more prominent as she got older.
With a heavy heart, Thomas reached for the cream that the doctor had given him and began to gently apply it to her cheek.
"I'm so... so sorry, my love," he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. "I wish I could take away your pain and make everything better."
As he continued to gently rub the cream into the burn, his daughter began to whimper and squirm in his arms. He held her close and whispered words of comfort, his heart breaking at the thought of her having to endure such a painful injury.
"It's okay, my darling. Daddy's here, and he loves you so much. You're going to be alright," he murmured, his voice thick with tears.
Despite his anguish, Thomas was determined to be strong for his daughter. He knew that she needed him now more than ever, and he would do everything in his power to protect her and make her feel loved and safe.
"It's not fair, is it?" he whispered to her, his voice cracking with emotion. "You didn't deserve this."
Thomas knew that his daughter would face challenges and prejudice because of her scar, and it broke his heart to think of the pain she would have to endure.
But he also knew that he would do everything in his power to protect her and to help her overcome any obstacles that came her way.
As he continued to rock her and apply the cream, he whispered words of love and comfort to her, promising to always be there for her and to make sure she knew how special and loved she was.
"I'll always be here for you, my darling," he said, his voice filled with determination. "And no matter what happens, you will always be beautiful to me."
