At first light Thomas woke with a small smile on his face, it was Ellie's first birthday. He gets out of bed and starts to get ready for the day starting by putting on his military uniform given it was also Remembrance Day.

He wanted to stay by his Daughters side the night before but knew he had to return for the gifts he ha gotten her that where in his room and to make sure he had everything with him to take to her.

Thomas walks into the hospital room, dressed in his military uniform, with a big smile on his face as he sees his little girl lying in her hospital bed. "Good morning, my little Ellie. Look what I've got here!" he says, holding up the presents he had brought for her.

Ellie's eyes light up as she sees her father, and she lets out a giggle as he sets the gifts down beside her. "Dada!" she exclaims, reaching out for him.

Thomas picks up Ellie and holds her close, feeling her warmth and the gentle rise and fall of her chest as she breathes. "Happy birthday, my darling girl. You're a year old," he says, kissing her forehead.

Ellie looks up at her father, her big pale green eyes filled with joy and wonder. She reaches to touch his face, and Thomas takes her little hand in his, holding it gently. "I love you so much, Ellie. You're my little miracle," he whispers, his eyes brimming with tears.

Ellie responds with a gummy smile and Thomas feels a lump form in his throat as he thinks about how much his daughter has been through in her short life.

As Ellie plays with her new toys, Thomas reflects on the past year and how much his life has changed since becoming a father. It has been a difficult journey, with many challenges and setbacks, but he wouldn't trade it for anything.

He remembers the day Ellie was born, how he had carried her himself and experienced childbirth firsthand. He had been scared and uncertain at first, but as soon as he held her in his arms, he knew that he would do anything to protect and care for her.

Thomas placed the gifts he had brought on the bed beside her, taking out the toy cars first. "Look Ellie, these are for you. I hope you like them," he said, showing her the colorful cars.

Ellie looked at the toys, her eyes widening with excitement, and Thomas couldn't help but smile. He then picked up the bunny teddy he had gotten her for Christmas a few weeks after she was born and gave it to her. "And this is your special bunny. He's been waiting for you to come back home," he said, holding the bunny out to her.

He knows that there will be more challenges ahead, but he also knows that he and Ellie will face them together, with love, courage, and determination. And he knows that he will always be there for her, no matter what. "Happy birthday, my beautiful Ellie. I'm so proud of you," he says, holding her close and feeling her small, fragile body against his own.

Thomas spent the day playing with Ellie, making sure to make her first birthday special despite being in the hospital. He sang her songs, read her stories, and even blew up some balloons to decorate her room.

As they celebrated Ellie's birthday, Thomas couldn't help but feel grateful for the little girl who had changed his life. Ellie had been diagnosed with cerebral palsy shortly after she was born, and Thomas had been forced to navigate the challenges of being a father to a child with a disability. But he had done it with grace and determination, and Ellie had become the light of his life.

As the day drew to a close, Thomas picked up Ellie and held her close. "Happy first birthday, my sweet girl," he whispered, kissing her cheek. "You're my little hero, and I love you more than anything in this world."

Ellie smiled up at him, and Thomas knew that no matter what challenges they faced in the future, they would always have each other.
