It had been a few days since the fire in the nursery room that nearly took Ellie's life. Thomas had been vigilant, watching over her every moment since the incident, barely leaving her side for even a moment. The burn on the lower part of her right cheek was still a concern. Doctor Clarkson had been called back to check on her and make sure that there were no other injuries that needed to be addressed.

As Doctor Clarkson began his examination of Ellie, she began to squirm and fuss. It was clear that she didn't like being prodded and poked, but Thomas was quick to shush and comfort her. "It's all right, Ellie, it's just the doctor checking on you," he murmured softly.

Doctor Clarkson continued his examination, looking over Ellie's tiny body with a careful eye. He checked her breathing, her heart rate, and her reflexes. Despite her restlessness, he was able to complete the examination without incident.

"She seems to be doing well, and I don't see any other injuries or concerns. older. "It's a good thing she's so young," he said, "she'll adapt to it as she grows."

Thomas nodded, but he couldn't help feeling a pang of sadness at the thought of his daughter carrying a scar for the rest of her life, "I've been so worried about her."

"I can understand why," Doctor Clarkson replied. "It was a terrifying experience."

Doctor Clarkson paused in his examination and looked up at Thomas. "She seems to respond well to you," he remarked. "That's a good sign."

Thomas smiled down at his daughter, feeling a swell of love and protectiveness rise up in him. "I'll always be here for her," he said, his voice firm. "No matter what."

The doctor finished his examination and stood up, giving Thomas a reassuring smile. "She's going to be just fine," he said. "She's a tough little one."

As the doctor packed up his medical supplies, Thomas continued to hold Ellie, soothing her with soft words and gentle touches. "You're safe now, my little one," he whispered. "I won't let anything happen to you again."

As Doctor Clarkson prepared to leave, he turned to Thomas. "I want you to keep an eye on that burn," he said. "If you notice any changes or if it doesn't seem to be healing properly, I want you to let me know right away."

"I will," Thomas promised.

As Doctor Clarkson left, Thomas settled back into his chair, cradling Ellie in his arms. He couldn't help but think about how close he had come to losing her in the fire. It was a reminder of just how fragile life could be, and how much he loved his daughter.

Ellie was still a little restless, and he could feel her tiny body wriggling in his arms. He knew that she needed something to soothe her, and so he got up from the rocking chair to make her a bottle of milk.

As he warmed the milk, he talked softly to Ellie, trying to calm her down. "It's alright, little one," he said. "Daddy's here."

Ellie made soft sounds, and Thomas smiled at her. "You're going to be alright," he said. "You're a fighter."

He finished making the bottle and went back to his rocking chair, settling Ellie in his arms once again. He held the bottle to her lips, and she began to suckle. Thomas watched her with a mixture of wonder, pride and a smile on his face.

As Ellie drank her milk, Thomas hummed a lullaby that his own mother had sung to him when he was a baby. The melody was soothing, and he hoped that it would help Ellie to sleep. He rocked the chair back and forth gently, feeling a sense of peace wash over him.

For a few moments, everything felt perfect. Thomas and Ellie were safe and together, and nothing else seemed to matter. He knew that there would be challenges ahead, but for now, he was content to just hold his daughter and cherish this moment.

As Ellie finished her milk and drifted off to sleep, Thomas continued to rock the chair gently. He looked down at her sleeping face and felt a surge of love and protectiveness. "I'll always be here for you," he whispered.
