Thomas Barrow, had been a father for just over four months now. His daughter Ellie had completely changed his life, and he was still getting used to the idea of being a single parent. But despite the challenges, he was determined to be the best father he could be for his little girl.

On a sunny but slightly chilly morning in March, Thomas decided to take Ellie for a walk in the woods. He had fashioned a makeshift sling out of a large thin blanket, and Ellie was nestled against his chest, cooing contentedly.

As he walked, Thomas couldn't help but feel a sense of peace and contentment. The woods were still bare from winter, but signs of spring were beginning to appear. The birds were chirping, and the first crocuses were pushing up through the ground.

"Isn't it beautiful, Ellie?" he murmured to his daughter, smiling down at her.

Ellie gurgled in response, and Thomas chuckled softly. He was still getting used to the idea of talking to a baby, but he was finding that he loved it more and more every day.

As he walked deeper into the woods, Thomas felt his troubles begin to fade away. He had been so worried about being a good father, about providing for Ellie and keeping her safe. But in this moment, none of that seemed to matter. All that mattered was the warmth of the sun on his face, the sound of the birds, and the feel of his daughter's weight against his chest.

For a while, they simply walked in silence, Thomas lost in his own thoughts and Ellie dozing in the warmth of her father's embrace. But eventually, he felt a twinge of hunger, and he realized that it was time to head back to the house.

As he turned to go, he spotted a small patch of wildflowers growing by the side of the path. He paused for a moment, then carefully picked a few of the delicate blooms and tucked them into Ellie's sling.

"There you go, my love," he said, admiring the way they looked against her soft pink blanket. "A little piece of spring to brighten up your day."

Ellie's eyes fluttered open, and she looked up at him with a sleepy smile. Thomas felt a surge of love and pride in his chest, and he knew that no matter what challenges lay ahead, he would do whatever it took to make sure that Ellie always felt loved and cared for.

As he made his way back to the house, Thomas felt a sense of peace and contentment that he hadn't experienced in a long time. Being a single father was never going to be easy, but in moments like these, he knew that it was worth every single struggle.

He made his way to the servants' kitchen from the servants door, where he was greeted by his fellow servants and the head housekeeper, Mrs. Hughes.

"Good morning, Thomas," Mrs. Hughes said with a warm smile. "How was your walk with Ellie?"

"It was lovely, thank you," Thomas replied, adjusting the makeshift sling that held Ellie against his chest.

Mrs. Patmore brought over a plate of eggs and bacon for Thomas. "Here you are, love," she said kindly. "Fuel up for the day ahead."

Thomas thanked her and began to eat his breakfast, occasionally glancing down at Ellie, who had fallen asleep in the sling. As he ate, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the support of his colleagues at Downton Abbey. They had been a great help since Ellie was born, offering advice and assistance whenever he needed it.

Just then, Anna walked in, carrying a tray. "Good morning, Thomas," she said, smiling at him. "And hello, little Ellie." She leaned down to get a closer look at the baby.

Before long he moved and settled into his rocking chair and cradled Ellie against his chest as she eagerly sucked at her bottle. As he watched her tiny fingers curl around the bottle, he couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder and awe.

"It hasn't been easy, has it, little one?" Thomas said, his voice tinged with exhaustion. "But we're making it work. You and me, against the world."

Thomas reflected on the challenges of single parenthood. He had to juggle his duties at Downton Abbey with the demands of caring for a newborn. He had to learn how to change diapers and warm bottles and lull a fussy baby to sleep.

But for every difficult moment, there were countless moments of joy. Like the first time Ellie had smiled at him, or the way she snuggled against his chest as he carried her around the house.
