Later that morning Thomas sat with Ellie as she played with her toys on the floor as another thought crossed his mind.

"Ellie," Thomas said gently, his voice laced with affection, "having a baby sister is a beautiful idea. But you know, there's also a chance that you could have a baby brother. What do you think about that?"

Ellie's face lit up, a smile spreading across her features. She contemplated her father's words, her bright eyes gleaming with anticipation. "A baby b - brother?" she echoed, her voice tinged with excitement. "That would b - be fun too, Daddy! We could play together, and I c - could teach him all the things I know!"

Thomas couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at Ellie's response. Her acceptance and openness to the idea filled his heart with warmth. He had always strived to raise her to be inclusive, embracing all possibilities that life had to offer. Seeing her embrace the idea of a sibling, regardless of their gender, affirmed that he was succeeding in his mission.

Leaning closer to his daughter, Thomas wrapped an arm around her petite frame, pulling her into a tender embrace. "Ellie, my love," he whispered, his voice filled with a mixture of love and gratitude, "you are the most wonderful gift I could ever ask for. Whether we have a baby sister or a baby brother, our family will be complete, and our hearts will overflow with love."

As the day unfolded before them, Thomas couldn't help but let his mind wander to the possibilities that lay ahead. He contemplated the idea of expanding their little family, imagining a future filled with laughter, love, and the pitter-patter of tiny feet. Thoughts of sibling bonds being forged, of Ellie's nurturing nature shining through, and of the joy that a new addition would bring swirled in his mind.

And as the sunlight danced across the walls, illuminating their cozy abode, Thomas couldn't help but feel a sense of hope and excitement. For in that moment, surrounded by love and with his daughter's unconditional support, he knew that their new chapter had only just begun but little Thomas know how soon such a wish would come true.

It had been a month and a half since Ellie had asked that fateful question.

Deep down, Thomas was not only surprised but also touched by Ellie's request. Being a carrier and having the ability to conceive and carry a baby himself, he had always contemplated the idea of expanding their small family. He liked the thought of Ellie having a sibling to share her life with, someone who would understand and support her unconditionally. And so, Thomas quietly hoped that one day he would find someone who would be willing to help him conceive, with no questions asked and no romantic entanglements involved and he had found just such a person.

As fate would have it, before long luck was on his side. It was a seemingly ordinary evening when Thomas started feeling queasy. The feeling intensified, and soon he found himself rushing to the bathroom, barely making it in time before he emptied the contents of his stomach. The sound of retching echoed through the cottage, alarming Ellie from her slumber.

Groggily but determined, Ellie slowly but surely moved her small body out of bed.

Her movements were deliberate, as she tried to hold onto her balance, Yet, fuelled by concern for her father, she persevered. Step by careful step, she made her way across the hall and towards the bathroom where her father was.

Pushing the door open with all her might, Ellie peeked into the bathroom. Her father, kneeling beside the toilet, appeared disheveled and weary. She took a hesitant step forward, her wobbly legs making the task difficult but not impossible. "Daddy, are y - you okay?" she asked, her voice filled with innocence and empathy.

Thomas turned his head, surprised to see Ellie standing there, her determination evident despite her unsteady gait. He managed a weak smile and replied, "I'm fine, sweetheart. Just a little sick, that's all."

"I'll take c - care of you, Daddy. I can make you feel better."

Thomas couldn't help but chuckle softly at her determination. He reached out and gently touched Ellie's hand, grateful for her unwavering love and support. "Thank you, darling. Your presence alone makes me feel better."

Instead of returning to her own bed as any child would do, Ellie nestled herself into her father's embrace, refusing to let go. She wanted to stay with him, to offer comfort and reassurance in her own innocent way.

As Thomas settled back into bed, Ellie crawled up beside him, snuggling close. She may not have fully comprehended the complexities of the situation, but she knew that her father needed her, and that was enough for her.

In that moment, as the night embraced them with its gentle embrace, Thomas realized that he wasn't alone in this journey. He had his precious Ellie by his side, a beacon of light in his life. And now, with the possibility of a new life growing inside him, he felt an overwhelming sense of hope and excitement for the future.
