it was soon time to head back, Thomas carefully rolled up the blanket, cradling it in one arm while he lifted Ellie onto his side, her legs wrapped around his torso. He gently picked up her leg braces, shoes, and socks, ensuring that nothing was left behind. As they left the beach behind, Thomas couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude for this precious time with his daughter.

With the weight of Ellie against him, Thomas made his way back to the cottage, his heart full of love and pride. He knew that their beach adventure was just the beginning of a lifetime of memories they would create together.

As he stepped through the door, Thomas gently set Ellie down, her legs finding their footing on the solid ground. He watched her take a few wobbly steps, her determination evident in every movement.

Thomas noticed the remnants of sand in Ellie's raven hair and on her hands and feet and he knew it was bath time. He guided Ellie to the bathroom, setting her down gently by the sink, and began to run a warm bath for her.

The room was soon filled with the sound of running water as Thomas carefully adjusted the temperature, ensuring it was just right. He turned to Ellie her eyes fixed on the swirling water.

"All right, my love, let's get you undressed," Thomas said gently.

With Ellie undressed, Thomas effortlessly scooped her up, cradling her in his arms as he lowered her into the warm, inviting bathwater. Ellie's face lit up, and she splashed the water with her tiny hands, sending tiny droplets cascading around her.

As the water enveloped Ellie's body, Thomas removed his suit jacket and rolled up his sleeves as he knelt down beside the bath and began to wash her hair, massaging her scalp with tender strokes. He hummed a soft lullaby, a melody that had had used from the beginning from the first few hours of her life in the world. Ellie's eyes fluttered closed, her body relaxed and content in her father's loving embrace.

The simple act of bathing Ellie was a moment of connection and intimacy for Thomas. As he gently washed away the remnants of sand, he felt a sense of fulfilment, knowing that he was caring for his daughter in every possible way. In this quiet sanctuary of their cottage, they forged memories that would last a lifetime.

After the bath, Thomas wrapped Ellie in a fluffy towel, drying her delicate skin with gentle pats. He dressed her in cozy pajamas, her hair still slightly damp, and carried her to her bedroom. As he tucked her into bed, Ellie nestled against her pillows, her eyelids growing heavy as she held her bunny teddy close to her.

Thomas leaned down to kiss her forehead. "Goodnight, darling," he whispered, his voice filled with all the love a father could muster.

As he left the room, Thomas couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the life he had created for himself and Ellie. They may have left the grandeur of Downton behind, but in their humble cottage by the sea, they had found a world of boundless possibilities, where love and adventure awaited them at every turn. And in that moment, as the sound of waves whispered through the window, Thomas knew that their journey, filled with endless love and cherished moments, was just beginning.

As he stepped out onto the porch, he left the front door slightly ajar, ensuring he could keep an eye on Ellie as he took a moment for himself.

Thomas settled onto the porch steps, his thoughts drifting towards the events of the day. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigarette, placing it between his lips. As he lit it, the soft glow illuminated his face, casting a shadow against the backdrop of the darkening sky.

The rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore provided a soothing soundtrack as Thomas exhaled, letting the day dissipate with the smoke. In that tranquil moment, he reflected on the unconditional love he felt for Ellie, the strength they had discovered together, and the endless possibilities that lay ahead.

As the smoke curled into the air, Thomas couldn't help but feel grateful for the bond he shared with Ellie.

Lost in his thoughts, Thomas looked out towards the distant sea, feeling a renewed sense of hope and determination. The journey they had embarked upon was filled with uncertainties, but he knew that as long as he had Ellie by his side, they would face whatever came their way, hand in hand.

And so, on that peaceful evening, Thomas Barrow sat on the porch steps, contemplating the beauty of the world and the strength of his daughter. In the quiet solitude of the coast, he found solace.
