It was the day of the annual cricket match between the Crawley family and the servants of the house against the team from the village was scheduled. Thomas was eager to take part in the match, as he had done every year since he had been employed at Downton. He dressed in his cricket attire as he prepared for the game.
As he held Ellie in his arms and made his way outside to where the match was being held on the grounds of the house, Thomas felt a pang of nervousness. It was the first time he was taking Ellie outside, and he was unsure of how she would handle the noise and commotion of the cricket match. He approached Lady Grantham, asking her if she would watch over Ellie while he took part in the game.
"Your Ladyship, I was wondering if I could ask for a favor," Thomas said, standing nervously in front of Lady Grantham.
"What is it, Thomas?" Lady Grantham asked, looking up from her book.
"I was hoping that you could watch over Ellie while I take part in the cricket match. It's the first time I'm taking her outside, and I'm a little nervous about how she'll react to all the noise and commotion," Thomas explained.
Lady Grantham looked at Thomas and smiled warmly. "Of course, Thomas. I would be happy to watch over Ellie while you play in the match. I remember how nervous I was when my own children were born. It's only natural to feel that way."
"Thank you, Your Ladyship," Thomas said, relieved that Lady Grantham had agreed to help him. "I really appreciate it."
As Thomas made his way to the cricket pitch, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the support and understanding he had received.
The cricket match was a close one, with both teams playing their best. Thomas was in top form, hitting several impressive shots and helping to score some crucial runs. As he played, he couldn't help but steal glances at Lady Grantham, who was sitting in the shade, watching over Ellie.
He felt a sense of pride and contentment as he played the game, knowing that his daughter was safe and being cared for. When the match was over, he made his way back to Lady Grantham, who was holding Ellie in her arms.
"She's been an angel, Thomas," Lady Grantham said, smiling at Ellie. "You have nothing to worry about."
Thomas couldn't help but feel a sense of relief as he took Ellie in his arms, feeling her small body against his chest. He looked at Lady Grantham and smiled.
"Thank you, Your Ladyship. I really appreciate your help," Thomas said, feeling a sense of gratitude for the kindness he had received.
Lady Grantham nodded, patting Thomas on the back. "You're welcome, Thomas. It takes a village to raise a child, as they say."
"Thank you, Lady Grantham," Thomas said with a grateful smile.
"You're welcome, Mr. Barrow. She's such a little darling," Lady Grantham replied, looking down at Ellie with fondness.
Thomas cradled his daughter in his arms and walked away from the cricket field, taking a stroll around the gardens. As he walked, he couldn't help but feel grateful for the peaceful moment with his daughter.
As he looked down at Ellie, he noticed a butterfly land on her nose. He watched in amazement as she sneezed, causing the butterfly to fly away.
Thomas couldn't help but laugh at the sight. "Looks like Ellie is already making friends with the local wildlife," he said to his daughter, who cooed in response.
As they continued their walk, Thomas felt a deep sense of contentment wash over him. Being a single father was no easy task, but moments like these made it all worth it
