Ellie's hand instinctively reached out, her fingers brushing against Thomas's cheek. Her touch was filled with a warmth that transcended words. It was a silent affirmation of their unwavering connection.

As Thomas lay there, he couldn't help but reflect on his journey as a single father. Life had thrown him many challenges, but it had also gifted him with immeasurable joy. Ellie had taught him the true meaning of unconditional love and resilience. She had shown him that strength came not from physical abilities but from the depths of one's heart.

In that moment, Thomas vowed to be the best father he could be, to be there for both his children through thick and thin. He would face the uncertainties that lay ahead with courage and determination. The road might be difficult, but he knew he wouldn't walk it alone. He had Ellie by his side, a constant reminder that love could conquer any obstacle.

As the sun continued its gentle ascent in the sky, Thomas closed his eyes, embracing the warmth of his daughter's presence. His tired body began to relax, knowing that in this moment of quietude, he had found a sanctuary of love and hope. And with Ellie's head resting gently on his belly, he knew that the journey of fatherhood was only just beginning, and he couldn't wait to see what the future held for his growing family.

Now, two weeks on, and Thomas found himself preparing for his appointment at the village hospital. As he dressed in his best attire, he glanced at his reflection in the small mirror hanging on the wall. His face looked paler than usual, the exhaustion evident in the shadows under his eyes.

With Ellie in the capable hands of Anna, Thomas slipped on his coat and made his way out of the house through the servants' door. He walked briskly, the cool morning air chilling his cheeks. The journey to the village hospital seemed longer than usual, his mind swirling with worries about his health and his new baby.

Upon arrival, The familiar face of the doctor brought a semblance of comfort to Thomas, who sat nervously on the examination table. The routine checkup began, with Doctor Clarkson taking his blood pressure and listening to his heart with a stethoscope.

"How have you been feeling, Thomas?" the doctor inquired, his voice gentle and reassuring.

Thomas swallowed nervously, trying to gather his thoughts. "I've been quite tired. The weakness seems to linger no matter how much rest I get."

Doctor Clarkson jotted down notes on his clipboard, his expression thoughtful. "Fatigue is a common symptom of anaemia. It's important that we keep monitoring your condition closely, especially since you're expecting."

Thomas nodded, his left hand unconsciously resting on his slightly swollen abdomen. He was twenty-five weeks pregnant, a fact that still amazed and delighted him. Becoming a father for the second time was a blessing, but now it brought an added layer of concern for his own well-being.

The examination continued as Doctor Clarkson asked about Thomas's eating habits, his questions aimed at understanding the root cause of his anaemia. Thomas answered honestly, describing his struggles with maintaining a balanced diet while juggling his duties and taking care of Ellie.

"I have concerns about how Ellie will cope with the new baby," Thomas admitted, his voice tinged with worry. "Her cerebral palsy makes it difficult for her to move around independently, and I fear that it will be challenging for me to provide her the attention she needs while taking care of a newborn."

Doctor Clarkson listened intently, his expression thoughtful. "I understand your concerns, Thomas," he said gently. "Caring for a child with special needs can be challenging, but I'm confident that you'll be able to manage both responsibilities.

But It's important to listen to your body, especially during pregnancy. Have you been experiencing any other symptoms?"

"I've been finding it difficult to eat," Thomas confessed, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "I've lost my appetite, and sometimes I can't keep food down."

Doctor Clarkson nodded sympathetically. "Loss of appetite and difficulty keeping food down can be common symptoms during pregnancy, especially when you're dealing with anemia. We'll need to keep a close eye on your nutritional intake and make sure you're getting the necessary nutrients for both you and the baby."

As the checkup came to an end, Doctor Clarkson provided Thomas with additional instructions and assured him that he could reach out anytime if needed. Thomas thanked the doctor sincerely, his gratitude evident in his eyes.

Walking back to Downton Abbey, Thomas felt a renewed sense of determination. He knew that challenges lay ahead, but he was ready to face them head-on.

Entering the house through the servants' door, Thomas was greeted by Anna, who had been patiently waiting for his return. As he hugged his daughter tightly, he knew that their journey together would be filled with both difficulties and joys, but their bond would always be unbreakable.
