After Ethan had inspected his tutoring student's room, they had wandered around the house for a short while, looking at everything, until Kai's mother had finally called them together for dinner. The brown-haired man hadn't even noticed how quickly the time had passed, or that Erin, their housekeeper, had already started preparing dinner. She was a fabulous cook and the Huening had loved her cooking since he was a small child. She always cooked him what he liked, yet in a healthy range. She still often read his food wishes from his lips, which he was happy about. Thus there was to his luck also today something, which tasted to him. Just like the guests, who hadn't had such a good meal in a decade. Even though Ethan's grandmother could prepare good food, they had never had the pleasure of luxurious dishes. Thus, all three were blown away by the invitation, marveling again and again as Erin strolled along with a second and third course.

After they had finally finished eating, the two students had retreated back to Kai's room. At the same time, it was also the first time that Kai could breathe a sigh of relief again.

"What's wrong?" asked Ethan teasingly of his host, grinning as he settled on the edge of the bed.

Kai shook his head.

"Nothing," he sighed, because he couldn't tell him directly how uncomfortable and grueling at the same time this dinner had been for him.

Constantly living in fear that his mother or aunt would say something to Ethan that might betray their offspring's affections. But the two women had really behaved themselves and not embarrassed Kai in front of his tutor and his tutor's grandparents. In fact, the dinner had gone very well. Kai himself had held back a bit and watched Ethan. It was nice to see him enjoying himself with his grandparents. So much so that the two older gentlemen had even wanted to stay for coffee and were now in the living room with the two women of the house.

And the brown-haired man was really glad that he had made it through dinner and was now even alone with Ethan.

From the edge of the bed, Ethan let his gaze wander over the walk-in closet to the corner where the large desk stood. On it were several monitors and a gigantic computer, which was certainly not only there to watch Youtube videos. In front of it was a large, comfortable armchair. It was immediately apparent that the Huening family had a lot of money, but the room didn't seem ostentatious or arrogant of wealth, but rather cozy and private.

Like the room of a simple teenager.

"I think my grandparents really enjoyed themselves today," Ethan began after his appraisal, directing his gaze to his fingers, which he kneaded sheepishly. "Thanks. We don't get invited out much."

Smiling, Kai shook his head.

"Oh, I haven't seen my mum so radiant in a long time either. She's usually always working a lot, so she's often at the hospital or in her office."

"And your father?" asked Ethan, raising both eyebrows.

Dissenting, Kai ducked his head.

"Is always traveling, I hardly see him anymore," he dodged the question and didn't elaborate. But after seeing his tutor try to cheer him up with his smile, Kai couldn't help but return it.
