"Kai!"

"Kai!"

His mother's shrill voice startled the brown-haired student out of his restful sleep and chased him out of the quiet dream he had been having until just now. Immediately he was wide awake in the double bed, slapping both palms against the bedspread in frustration. Wishing himself back into his dream, for he had been so sure that he had been acting from Ethan. Unfortunately, he couldn't entirely remember what exactly the dream had looked like.

"Kai!" he heard his mother scream again.

"Am awaaaake!" the shouted back, slowly struggling to a sitting position and running his right hand through his tousled mane of hair. Kai didn't really feel awake, because after the shock evaporated, which had been caused by the high pitch of his mother's voice, the tiredness came back immediately. The past night had been really restless for him.

He had lain awake far too long and therefore slept until late in the afternoon.

"The doorbell rang. Open the door!" his mother called, and Kai could guess from the distance that she was in her office.

But ... seriously!?

She woke him up because the doorbell had rung?

He hadn't even really realized that it wasn't morning anymore.

"Where's Erin, then? She can open up too ...", Kai yelled across the top floor to his mother. He really didn't understand why it wasn't her housekeeper who did it, but why he, of all people, had to be dragged out of his beautiful dream.

That had almost never happened before.

But the doctor and mother of two was not to be trifled with, and you could hear that in her undertone as she yelled, "Open the door right now, Huening Kai!"

So he couldn't help but admit defeat, let out a loud, indignant sigh, and stood up on his still somewhat wobbly legs. Immediately he slipped into his slippers as his toes began to shiver from the slabs of the floor. He couldn't go back to his warm, cozy bed now, because his mother was already far too irritated. Therefore, he grinded his way through the whole house to the big, noble front door. Kai didn't really try to smile, because it was surely just the mailman and he had already seen him in his pajamas more than once.

A second thought popped into his head, that it might be Taehyun after all.

But running back now to change his clothes, just so that the know-it-all wouldn't make any stupid jokes, wasn't something Kai wanted to do either.

While he was still ironing his protruding hair by hand, he opened the heavy door with sleepy eyes. Blinking, he struggled against the bright light of the sun that was still shining, trying to adjust to the brightness and make out the outline. Surprised, the young student gasped for air and within a second he was wide awake. His heart had literally dropped when he saw Lee Heeseung standing there with his grandparents.
