Steve headed back into the dining room to see everyone staring at him. "Who was that?" Nat asked.
"A friend." Steve said with a shrug, he grabbed his jacket off the back of the chair and walked away. Bucky quickly followed him.
"What did Vic want?" Bucky asked, he heard the start of their conversation but tuned them out when Steve walked away.
"She wanted to know if she could stay over tonight." Steve admitted once the two were alone.
"Oh, you gonna ask Stark to get a guest room set up?" Bucky asked.
"Nah, she asked if she could stay with me." Steve admitted nervously. "I gotta get her upstairs without the team seeing her." He added after a minute.
"I'll deal with them. But I want to hear all about whatever this is, later." Bucky reassured him, firmly clapping him on the shoulder and taking off towards the dining room to distract the team.
Steve headed out to the parking garage to wait for Victoria, she whipped it into her spot like she'd been driving all day. He could already tell she was frustrated about something. He opened her car door for her as soon as she shut the engine off, giving her an apologetic smile as she climbed out.
"I'm sorry." She said, staring up at him while she grabbed her bag from the passenger seat.
"Don't be. What happened?" He asked, he put his arm around her shoulders and led her inside. As promised, Bucky kept everyone in the dining room, so Steve was able to get her up to his apartment without anyone even noticing.
"He's so frustrating." She said with a huff. She flopped down on the couch and kicked her feet up on the coffee table. Steve came and sat next to her, kicking his own feet up.
"Care to elaborate? Or do I have to beat it out of you?" Steve asked. Victoria sighed and lifted his arm, moving it around her shoulders as she leaned against his chest. "No sparring, please. I'm so tired." She mumbled sleepily.
"No sparring." He promised. "You can have the bed." Steve reassured her, his arm tightening around her shoulders. Victoria groaned and leaned her head back against Steve. "Is there something wrong with me?" She asked. Steve looked down at her confused, but shook his head. "No, you're perfect. Why would you ever think otherwise?" He asked.
"All Noah and I do is fight. I just needed a relaxing evening, I just wanted to lay on the couch together and watch stupid TV and fall asleep on him. Why can't I have that, am I really asking that much?" She whined.
Steve leaned down and kissed her forehead. "Not at all, you're just asking the wrong person." He said calmly.
"I know that's not all that brought you here." He added after a few minutes of comfortable silence. Victoria sighed heavily and sat up against Steve's chest. "Would you tell me if I'm being unreasonable?" She asked. Steve couldn't help but laugh. "Of course." He promised.
"He says he doesn't need my permission to touch me because we're married. I say he does, am I wrong?" She asked, Steve's posture stiffened, his smile faded as he looked at Victoria with worry and anger.
"You're not wrong. Did he try something? Buck and I will go down there right now." Steve said sternly.
"Nothing like that." Victoria reassured him. She saw him soften again, pulling her against his chest.
"Good. I would've killed him." Steve confessed. She knew he meant it too.
"You didn't tell anyone I was here, did you?" She asked.
"Only Buck, and he doesn't know why. He distracted the team so nobody would see us." Steve promised.
"I know I'm being totally unfair to ask, but could we just lay here for a while, maybe go to sleep and cuddle later?" Victoria asked nervously. Steve smiled down at her, kissing her forehead again. "It's not unfair, you're my best friend." He promised.
