Victoria woke up to the constant angry beeping of a heart rate monitor. She shot up in bed, ripping the tabs off of her skin. But Steve rushed in and stopped her by grabbing her wrists. "Vic, stop. You're going to tear your stitches." He insisted. But Victoria didn't care, she had to check on Bucky.

"Buck?" She asked frantically, trying to fight Steve's hold. But Steve wasn't letting up. He collected both her wrists in one hand and held onto her face with the other. "He's in surgery, we don't know anything yet. There's nothing you can do for him but sit here." He insisted.

Victoria still fought in his hold, needing to see Bucky to know that he was still alive, but Steve wouldn't let up. "Stop!" He yelled, making her jump and freeze. Steve never yelled at her, ever. He sighed, sliding his hand from her face to hold onto the back of her neck. "I know, Vic. I know. But that bullet came so close to hitting your heart. I need you to stop before you hurt yourself. There's nothing we can do for Buck right now." He said much calmer.

Victoria sagged into him, feeling herself welling up with heartbreak. "I'm only alive because he took that hit. I have to see him, Steve." She begged. She couldn't get herself to stop worrying, to stop this creeping sick feeling that he could die because of her.

Steve finally released her wrists, taking her face into his hands with both hands. "You will, Vic." He promised her. He rested his forehead against hers, breathing in her scent and thanking God that she was still alive. He didn't know if she even realized that she'd passed out shortly after he had to pry the two apart, that she was also heavily bleeding but only focused on Bucky.

Peter interrupted the two by rushing into her hospital room. "Tor! You're awake!" He said with a tone that suggested he'd been crying. He rushed to her side, yanking her out of Steve's grip and wrapping his arms around her until she winced in pain from her bullet wound pressing into his hard chest.

"Easy, Parker!" Steve warned when he saw Victoria flench and hiss through her teeth.

Peter pulled away from their embrace, holding onto Victoria's face with both hands. "You scared the shit out of me, Vic. You've been out for almost a day." He admitted.

Victoria felt her chest hurt at that. Did that mean Bucky had been in surgery ever since they'd gotten back? She looked at Steve panicked and broken, he just gave a small nod in response. She knew that wasn't good, it couldn't have been. Nobody is in surgery that long if it's not bad. "How bad is he?" She asked. But she was scared of the answer, she just needed to hear it.

Steve sighed, sitting on the edge of her bed. "The bullet went through his spine, severing it and rupturing his kidney and tearing his large intestine on the way out." He explained. But he elaborated further before she had the chance to worry. "But with the serum, as long as they can patch up everything, he'll heal. He'll be fine." He promised her.

Victoria choked on a sob, covering her mouth with her hand. She felt like her chest was tight, she couldn't breathe. She couldn't think. He could die and for what? For her? It wasn't an even trade, she thought.

Peter grabbed onto her face, making her look at him. "Tor, they're working on him. The best doctors in the country. Mr. Stark made sure of it." He promised her. "How about we go see how it's going? There's an observation window." He told her.

Steve cleared his throat, shaking his head no when they both turned their attention to him. He didn't want her to see all the blood and all the doctors seemingly panicked. He didn't want her to worry that things were worse than they were.

Victoria didn't care about his objections, she needed to see Bucky. She had to. She climbed out of bed, ignoring both of their objections. She even had to ignore how dizzy and nauseous she felt when she stood up. She grabbed ahold of the bed as soon as she was on her feet, but Peter wrapped his arms around her and steadied her. "Mr. Roger's, I think we should just take her to him. She's going to go no matter what, at least this way we're helping her." He pleaded with Steve. He knew there was no changing her mind, so he'd rather be there to help her.
