Victoria woke up to the now familiar ache all over her body, flopping flat onto her back and stretching her arms out to her sides. When she opened her eyes she remembered she was, yet again, taking over Steve's bed. She couldn't help but feel guilty that he kept giving up his own room for her. She sat up and sat on the edge of the bed for a moment. The dull ache spread all over her body as soon as her feet touched the cold hardwood floors. With a deep sigh, she put her hands on her knees and forced herself to stand up. She yawned quietly, stretching onto hers toes. A sharp pain from her broken rib taking over her body, forcing her stretch to end early as she winced in pain.
"Shit.." She mumbled as she headed towards the bathroom, every step seemed to ache. That's when she remembered the sprained ankle, she rolled her eyes, annoyed with herself for really jumping off a bridge.
When Victoria made her way out of Steve's bedroom he was on the couch, sketching. "It's about time you woke up." He teased. Victoria rolled her eyes at him, coming to sit next to him on the couch. "I don't think everything hurt this badly last night when I woke up for dinner." She admitted.
"That's because we gave you something when Buck stitched you up." Steve admitted. Victoria looked at him, pretending to be shocked. "You drugged me? How dare.." She teased. Steve rolled his eyes at her. "You're welcome." He said sarcastically.
"Thank you, Steve. For dinner, for letting me hog your bed, everything." Victoria said. Steve sat his sketchbook down, wrapping his arm around her shoulders. "You know I'll always take care of you." He reminded her. She leaned against him, putting her head on his chest. "I know. But you don't have to." She countered.
"Trust me. I know, I choose to. You're still my best friend." Steve promised.
"Do I get more of the good shit now that I'm awake?" Victoria asked with a laugh, but even laughing hurt.
"Do you need it?" Steve asked, looking down at her with worry.
"Yes, Steve. I need it, we can't all be super. I have a broken rib and my head is cracked open." She reminded him with a laugh.
"Okay, stay here. I'll head down to the lab and grab something from Stark." Steve reassured her. He gave her a kiss on the forehead and stood up, heading out of his apartment. Once alone, Victoria curled up in a small ball on the couch, resting her head on one of the couch pillows.
Steve headed down for the lab, surprised when he saw Bucky on his way there, too.
"How is she?" Bucky asked nervously, he'd barley slept last night. The guilt of hurting Victoria weighing on his mind too much.
"She's okay, Buck. Today she says it's her rib and her ankle. She didn't even mention her head." Steve lied, he blamed himself more than he blamed Bucky. He's the one that asked if she wanted to fight outside of the ring, he's the one that gave her the shield. He's the one that trained her to be reckless and fearless.
"Is she heading home?" Bucky asked.
"No, she looks like shit. There's no way she can explain that to Noah, I convinced her to stay the week." Steve confessed. He knew she didn't want to go home heavily bruised, broken rib, two bullet wounds and her head split open.
"Maybe if she's not afraid of me, I'll stop by and check on her later.." Bucky said timidly. He wouldn't had been surprised if Victoria was terrified of him after that, he would've understood, he would've expected it.
"She's not, how about you bring her something for pain?" Steve suggested. The two made their way to the lab to see Tony and Bruce. Bruce had explained everything to Tony, he was obviously furious but also proud, and worried.
