Chapter 31

By the third day, Victoria was feeling much better, back to her normal self. She'd even stopped bleeding. So, she did what she was dreading. Talk to Tony.

Victoria made her way down to the lab, still in Steve's clothes, they were comforting, they were warm. She'd been quite cold the last couple of days, so one of his oversized hoodies and a pair of sweatpants had been her outfit of choice. She didn't let herself in, she stood right outside of the door to his office in the lab, her nerves overwhelming her. After several minutes of silently arguing with herself, she finally knocked on the doorframe.

"Come in." Tony shouted without looking up from his computer. But when Victoria stepped in the door and Tony made eye contact with her, he immediately jumped up. He rushed to Victoria, pulling her into his chest and hugging her tightly. "Bunny, are you okay? Darth Vader told me you've been training too hard. I texted you, but FRIDAY told me your phone has been dead." He rambled.

Victoria felt herself ready to cry, she loved Tony, she hadn't lied to him since she hid from him that she was with Steve during the blip. "I'm sorry." She choked out.

Tony held her back by her shoulders, offering a warm smile. "Don't be. I'm just glad you're feeling better. You've been doing too much. Can I offer my opinion? I'm going to anyway." Tony rambled, making Victoria let out a teary laugh, but nodded.

"You're training so rough because you're avoiding going home. You're avoiding Noah." Tony blurted out.

"I.." Victoria started. But honestly, she didn't know what to say. She debated arguing, she debated blurting out the reason she'd came down to the lab. But no words came to her.

"I know, I know. You're too old to start over. You're stubborn like your boss, you know that, Alvarez?" Tony teased. Victoria shook her head, gently shoving her boss' shoulder. It was adorable how he simply refused to call her by her married name, but it would make things a little easier around work. Nobody at work saw her as Victoria Remy anyway, so telling them she was going back to Alvarez was going to be easy.

Tony guided Victoria to sit at the other side of his desk, sitting beside her. He assumed she'd came down there for a reason if she hadn't even bothered to go home and change into some of her own clothes. He sat and watched while Victoria slightly squirmed in her seat, picking at her nails and doing anything not to make eye contact with him. After several minutes, he cleared his throat. Only Victoria and Morgan got this kind of patience out of him, anyone else he would've thrown out of his office. But, for her, he would wait all day.

Victoria finally looked up at Tony, seeing how willing he was to wait, how he didn't even look irritated that she'd just sat uncomfortably for at least the last 10 minutes. "I.. I was hoping you could help me with something?" She finally got out.

"Anything. Name it and it's yours, bunny." Tony promised the second she had finished speaking.

Victoria shifted nervously again, crossing her legs and fidgeting with her hands in her lap. Tony grabbed ahold of her hands, holding them securely in his own. "Talk to me, bunny. Whatever it is, I'm here. Whatever you need." He promised, his tone, however, was much softer this time.

Victoria looked up at him again, finally meeting his eyes with her own. "Could you maybe, if you were willing, hook me up with one of your fancy lawyers?" She finally asked.

Tony arched an eyebrow at her, a confused look spreading across his face. "Of course I can. What kind of trouble did you get yourself into? Accidentally create a weapon of mass destruction? Bomb a library? Did you.. I don't know. What did you do?" He asked with a small laugh.

"I got married.." Victoria said hesitantly. She hadn't said it out loud yet, that she'd decided to leave Noah. She rehearsed it in her head all morning, but she hadn't said it out loud.
