Samantha woke up in the midninight with a heavy heart. The events of the previous night still lingered in her mind, and she knew that her marriage was beyond repair.

Augustus had always shown her his true colors in front of her, and she couldn't ignore them any longer.

Their first year of marriage was filled with passion and happiness. Augustus treated her like a queen, showering her with gifts and affection.

He would often surprise her with romantic dates and weekend getaways, making sure to always put her needs first.

But as the year went on, something changed in Augustus. He became more distant, more demanding, and more controlling.

Samantha couldn't quite put her finger on it, but she felt like she was walking on eggshells around him. One wrong move and he would snap, yelling at her for the smallest things.

It wasn't long before Augustus began showing his true colors. He started to belittle Samantha, telling her she was useless and that she would never be good enough for him.

He would often come home late, sometimes not even coming home at all, leaving Samantha to wonder where he was and what he was doing.

The physical abuse started slowly, with small pushes and shoves, but it quickly escalated to violent beatings. Augustus would come home drunk and angry, taking out his frustrations on Samantha. She would often wake up with bruises and cuts, not knowing how she got them.

Samantha couldn't believe that the man who once showed her so much love and respect could be capable of such cruelty. She was trapped in a nightmare, living in constant fear of what he would do next. It was as if the Augustus she had married had disappeared, replaced by a monster.

She walked into the living room and saw Augustus sleeping soundly on the sofa without a quilt. She tucked him in and walked on tiptoe for fear of disrupting him.

When Augustus woke up, his eyes were dark and stormy. He looked like a man on the edge, ready to explode at any moment. Samantha tried to keep her distance, but Augustus seemed to be looking for a fight.

He grabbed her by the neck, his fingers digging into her flesh like knives. Samantha tried to pull away, but he held her tight, making it difficult for her to breathe.

"What the hell do you want from me, Samantha?" Augustus spat, his eyes full of rage.

Samantha tried to reason with him. "I was just asking you questions, Augustus. I wasn't trying to start a fight."

Augustus sneered at her. "You're always trying to start something, Samantha. You're never satisfied with what you have. You always want more."

Samantha felt a sense of frustration and despair wash over her. How could he be so blind to his own faults, so quick to blame her for everything that went wrong in their marriage?

"I'm not asking for much, Augustus," Samantha said, her voice shaking with emotion. "I just want you to be my husband, love and care for me."

Augustus laughed bitterly. "You're living in a dream world, Samantha. I don't love you, you know what, our marriage was just a deal"

Samantha's eyes filled with tears as Augustus continued to grip her neck. She didn't know what to do or say. She was scared and helpless, and Augustus seemed to be enjoying every moment of it.

"I'm sorry, Augustus," Samantha managed to choke out. "I won't ask any more questions. Please, let go of me."

But Augustus only tightened his grip, making it harder for Samantha to breathe. He started to pull her hair and slap her face, each blow making her feel more and more helpless.

Samantha knew that this was just the beginning. Augustus had a way of taking out his anger on her, and he never seemed to get enough.

As Augustus continued to hit her, Samantha's mind drifted to a dark place. She had been here before, too many times to count. She knew that there was no escaping Augustus's rage, no way to stop him from hurting her.

When Augustus finally stopped, Samantha collapsed onto the ground, her body shaking with sobs. She felt broken, defeated, and alone.

Augustus glared at her with hatred. "Next time, learn to shut your goddamn mouth," he said as he went directly to the bed, his back turned to her.

Samantha struggled to catch her breath, feeling a sense of dread wash over her. How could she go on living like this? How could she continue to let Augustus hurt her, both physically and emotionally?

As Samantha lay on the floor, she knew that she had to find a way out. She couldn't keep living like this, always afraid of what Augustus might do next. She deserved to be happy, to be loved, and respected.
