A few weeks later......
Samantha's heart was pounding as she stood in front of the imposing gates of Augustus' mansion. She hadn't set foot in that place for a long time, but now she knew she had to face him. She couldn't do it alone though, and she was grateful that Bryan was there with her for support.
Samantha hesitated for a moment before mustering up the courage to knock on the door. She raised her hand and hit the door five times, but there was no answer. She tried again, this time ringing the doorbell repeatedly. Still, there was no response.
Just as she was about to give up and leave, the door slowly creaked open. Standing before her was Augustus, looking pale and haggard. Samantha was surprised.
"Augustus... are you okay?" she asked, her concern evident in her voice.
He didn't reply, just stared at her with a blank expression. Samantha took a step forward, worried that something might have happened to him.
Brylle stood next to Samantha as they faced Augustus, the man who had caused Samantha so much pain and suffering. Augustus looked at Brylle and then at Samantha, confusion etched on his face.
"Samantha... and, who-who is she?" Augustus asked, his eyes narrowing.
"None of your business, Augustus," Samantha replied, her voice steady but firm. "I'm here for you to sign this. We're leaving New York."
Augustus held the divorce papers in his hands and his eyes flickered over the words, his lips curled in a sneer. He turned to look at Bryan, who stood across the room with his arms crossed over his chest.
"Divorce papers?" Augustus repeated, his voice laced with anger. "But this child looked so much like me. I am his father, am I right? One look, and I could already tell that I'm her dad."
By this, Samantha figured that she made the wrong decision to bring Brylle with her.
As she looked at her girl, she couldn't help but notice the similarities between her and Augustus. Her eyes, the same shade of blue as her father's, stared back at her.
The shape of her face, the curve of her lips, all reminded her of the man who had caused her so much pain.
"I won't sign this, Samantha," he continued, his voice low and dangerous. "I actually want you back."
Samantha's heart sank. She had hoped he would accept the divorce and move on, but it seemed like he was not ready to let her go. "Please, Augustus," she pleaded, "don't do this. You have hurt me enough already. I can't go back to the way things were."
Augustus stood up, towering over Samantha, his fists clenched. "You can't just leave me like this," he said, his voice rising. "I need you, Samantha. I love you."
Samantha shuddered at the thought of going back to him, of enduring his abuse once again. "Love? What kind of love is that, Augustus? You hurt me, you made me suffer, and you expect me to just forgive and forget?"
Augustus took a step forward, his face contorted with anger and regert "I didn't mean to hurt you, Samantha," he said, his voice pleading now. "I just... I don't know what came over me. Please, give me another chance."
Samantha shook her head, tears streaming down her face. "I can't, Augustus. I can't go back to the way things were. I need to think about my baby and the man I love now. Please, just sign the papers and let me go."
