Samantha walked into the room, watched Augustus as he fell into a deep sleep, his chest rising and falling in a slow, steady rhythm.

That night, she decided not to sleep in their room. She couldn't bear the thought of being close to Augustus, of feeling his touch, his breath on her skin.

How had her marriage turned into such a nightmare? How had she let Augustus control her, abuse her, and hurt her for so long?

At the span of their three-year-loveless marriage, all she felt was sadness and grief. All she got from Augustus was pain, abuse, and sorrow. She was used for pleasure.

Despite this, she never thought of leaving Augustus. She was still hopeful that one day, he'll find love in his heart. That one, he will value and treat her like a real woman, like a real wife.

She spent the night curled up on the couch, feeling lonely and vulnerable. She picked up her phone and thought about calling her friend Lily, but hesitated. She didn't want to burden her friend with her problems.

Just as she was about to put her phone down, it rang. It was Lily.

"Hey, Sam, how are you doing?" Lily asked.

Samantha tried to sound upbeat, but her voice came out weak and shaky. "I'm okay, just a bit tired."

Lily could sense that something was wrong. "Sam, is everything okay? Did Augustus hurt you again?"

Samantha paused for a moment, then finally admitted the truth. "Yes, he did. He hit me again."

Lily was shocked and angry. "Sam, you need to leave him. This is not okay. You deserve so much better than this."

Samantha knew that Lily was right, but it was easier said than done. "I know, but it's complicated. I don't have anywhere to go, and I don't have any money. I'm trapped, Lily."

The two friends continued to talk for a while longer, and Samantha felt a little less alone. She knew that she had someone who cared about her and was willing to help her through this difficult time.

Thinking about her current situation, Samantha couldn't help but cry. She felt like she had lost the man she had loved, the man she had dreamed of building a life with. She had given him everything, and yet he had treated her with such cruelty and indifference.

"I love you, Augustus," Samantha whispered to herself. "I hope one day, you'll be able to love me too."

But deep down, Samantha knew that it was unlikely. Augustus had shown her time and time again that he was incapable of love, that he was only interested in his own pleasure and needs.

And yet, despite everything, Samantha couldn't bring herself to hate Augustus. She still loved him, still hoped that he would change, that he would find it in his heart to treat her with kindness and respect.
