One evening, when Augustus had finally come home, Samantha tried calling out to him from the living room. She needed to tell him something important, but every time she tried to speak, her voice caught in her throat.

"Augustus, can we talk?" she finally managed to whisper.

Augustus sighed heavily, as if annoyed at having to even acknowledge her. "What is it now?" he asked.

Samantha took a deep breath and steadied herself. "I need to tell you something," she said. "I went to the doctor today, and they confirmed that I'm pregnant. I know you don't believe me, but it's true. We're going to have a baby."

Augustus didn't say anything for a moment, as if trying to process the news. Then, he shook his head and scoffed. "I don't have time for this, Samantha. I have more important things to worry about than your lies."

With that, he turned on his heel and walked away. Samantha was left standing there, tears streaming down her face.

Samantha was excited to present the pregnancy test kit to Augustus, his face contorted with anger. He snatched the kit from her and examined it, as if hoping to find some evidence that it was a fake.

"This is ridiculous," he snarled. "You expect me to believe this? You're lying to me, Samantha. You're making this up to trap me."

Samantha shook her head, tears starting to form in her eyes. "I'm not lying, Augustus," she said softly. "I promise you, this is real. We can go to the doctor together and get it confirmed."

Augustus scoffed. "Like I'm going to waste my time on this nonsense. I know you're just trying to trick me into staying with you."

With that, he threw the pregnancy test kit at Samantha's feet and stormed out of the room.

Samantha was left alone, her heart pounding in her chest. She couldn't believe how callous and cruel her husband could be. Despite everything, she had still hoped that he would be happy about the news of their baby.

As she picked up the test kit and threw it into the trash, Samantha couldn't help but feel a wave of sadness and despair wash over her. She was pregnant, and yet she felt more alone than ever. She knew that Augustus would never change, and that their relationship was beyond repair.
