"How the hell did we end up here?" She huffed as she shouldered her bag.

"Xena, you and I both know why we are here. I've got a new job at the high school here and well-"

"Yeah, I know, Ma. My father is an asshole who kicked your ass out of his house." Xena growled as she grabbed her large suitcase from the boot of the car.

"Xena." Her mother sighed at her daughter's words.

"Ma. He literally cheated on you when I was four! He cared too much about his business to come to any of my sports games, he never made it to much academic awards, he didn't make it to my first or any of my semi-pro boxing matches, he doesn't care about us Ma! So excuse my tone for disliking the man you put up with for 12 extra years for my sake." Xena grabbed another small backpack of hers before she went inside the humble house the movers were moving stuff into.

She stepped inside the two story house and smiled softly at the log cabin vibe. Her feet taking her to the finished stairwell up to the top floor where she knew the two smaller bedrooms were going to be. The master room being on the first floor for her mother. The second floor was an open concept compared to the first. There was a small wooden floor area where a large rug and some beanbag chairs would look nice. There was plenty of wall space for Xena's bookshelves to fit on the far back wall of the small living room. A large set of windows in the shape of the roof let in natural light making Xena beam as she slowly felt the place growing on her.

Now, don't get her wrong, Xena didn't necessarily want to move out here. But she did want to get the fuck away from her dad.

Two of the only things Xena was glad she inherited from him was his height. That length helps her so much when it comes to fights. Then his athletic build. Xena could pack muscle quickly when she needed to.

Other than that, she doesn't even want his money. It's what made him how he is in the first place.

Xena's mother on the other hand. She was a poor, white kid whose family fought to live in the suburbs. Yet that family was tough. Hella tough and hella close. They learned to be fighters and lovers.

It's where Xena learned her good side from, the hard worker who cared for those around her. All she learned from her dad was how she had to protect herself and those she loved from those that would gladly hurt them.

"Xena! How do the rooms look?" Xena's head snapped from the wooden door she was staring at as he mom's voice trickled up the stairwell.

"Oh! I'm still deciding which one I want for me and then which one I want for the guest room!" Xena lied through her teeth. Another skill she picked up from her dad.

"Okay! Well the movers are almost through setting up the dining room and living room, they'll want to move to your bookshelves and stuff shortly!"

"Sounds good, Ma! I'll be done in a few minutes!" Xena shouted back down the stairs before turning to the two closed wooden doors. With a deep breath she pushed them both open at the same time. Her mouth dropping as she took in the simplistic modern cabin feel.

Both rooms had large windowed exterior walls. The windows extended from the top of the roof to the middle of the wall, just at hip level before meeting wooden logs. The rooms were nearly identical, except, the Northern facing room had a balcony.

Xena's internal nature lover went absolutely head over heels thinking about stargazing and sunrise/set watching.

Satisfied, Xena chucked her bags and suitcase into the North room before moving to the room at the end of the hall. A simple bathroom. A sink, a toilet, and a walk in shower with a removable shower head. Then a large enough tub for her to relax or do ice baths in. It was more than enough for her. Especially when the wall opposite the sink and toilet had built in cabinets. Like what isn't fancy about that.

"Hey, Ma! How much did you say this house costs?" Xena jokingly yelled as she jogged down the stairs.

"Honestly not a lot considering how nice this is. You think someone died in here?" She asked in a whisper. The seriousness on her face false as they tried not to laugh.

"Someone had too. Probably right here in the living room, or maybe murdered in the kitchen." The two women laughed it off before leaving to go help the movers with the second truckload of things. Aka all of Xena's stuff.

"That's the last of this one." The mover spoke as he gently wheeled a covered vehicle out of the trailer. Xena's eyes glimmering in delight as she watched her baby get carefully taken out of the moving van.

When the wheels were set down and the covered pulled off, Xena couldn't help the small squeal of delight which slipped from her lips. Her hands grabbing the handles of her motorcycle as she gently steered it into the driveway.

"Thank you!" She shouted over her shoulder as she proceeds to lock her bike to the metal pole off to the side of the garage. The three movers chuckled at the teens delight and were more than happy to have helped the two ladies.

"Y'all have a safe trip back. It's a long ass drive." Xena's mother spoke as she shook hands with the gentlemen. A fifty replacing her hand for each of them. "It's not much, but I really do appreciate y'all's help."

"Marie, come here. We would have done this for free." One of them said hugging his life-long best friend.

"Yeah, that fucker didn't deserve you. Piece of shit." The three laughed at the disgruntled mover as he spat on the ground.

"Oh, Jeremy. You never cease to entertain." Marie said with a soft smile.

"You keep in touch now, you hear?"

"Loud and clear, Gray. Now give me a hug." Gray wrapped his arms around the woman. Tightening it as he realized how badly he was going to miss seeing her every other day.

"Hey, Gray's getting more attention then you did, Stephen. And you're her best friend since diapers." A wack was heard from behind Marie as Stephen hit Jeremy.

"We should get going. Texas isn't going to meet us halfway."

"Be careful driving back. Keep me updated." Marie called out after them as they split up into the two vans.

"We will." Jeremy and Stephen call out as they get in the front one.

"Keep an eye on Xena and yourself, Marie." Marie nodded at Gray's words as he got in and shut the moving van door behind him.

"Hey Ma! We have got absolutely nothing in this fridge!" Marie turned with a smile as she watched her daughter frown in the doorway.

"Then I guess we're going to have to try some local food."

"Hell yes!"
