"I thought you said Kooks don't come over here?" I hissed as I turned my head back to John B and JJ.

"We said they don't typically come over here. Figure Eight beaches must have been flooded to make them come over here." JJ hypothesized.

"Ugh. And it's them too." Pope groaned from my right as he was in between me and the group.

"Fucking Kook Royalty and their posse." John B murdered as we walked directly passed them.

"Damn, Pope. John B, JJ, whose cousin is this?" I scoffed at the comment as the three boys beside me clenched their jaws.

"Fuck off, Topper." JJ spat as we kept walking.

"Whoa, man. Didn't mean any disrespect. Just was wondering why she's hanging with you three."

"The hell is that supposed to mean, Topper?" John B said as we all stopped walking and the two boys turned towards the group.

"Guys. Come on." Pope murmured, though I could tell he wanted in on this.

"Oh fuck." I grumbled as I set the board down and marched towards the two boys who looked like they were about to start shit.

"Whoa, Top, you start the party without me?" I looked at the new comer and nearly groaned out loud as I reached John B and JJ.

"I'm just trying to meet John B and JJ's new friend." Topper called out as I stepped in front of the boys and pushed on their chests.

"Ignore them. Let's go. I want to learn how to surf." I spoke more confidently then how I felt earlier.

The two boys wanted to stay but they also knew I didn't want them to fight.

"New friend? Damn, who's cousin?" I heard footsteps approach closer that belonged to the new comer.

"Walk back to Pope or I swear I will knock both of your asses out and drag you to the Twinkie." I threatened as I started walking.

"Well hang on now, miss." I felt his hand land on my uncovered shoulder keeping me from moving. My body tensed as I watched John B and JJ turn preparing to drop their surfboards.

I shook my head no before taking matters into my own hands.

I turned around, throwing his hand off me.

"Touch me again, and I'll break your limb." I growled out lowly as I rose my sunglasses. "Then after Daddy dearest pays the hospital to heal it, I'll break it again." I threatened as I glared up into his eyes.

I'll give it to him, he did well to conceal the flash of panic within his own anger. But I saw it. The small flash in his eyes before they burned.

"You must think you're tough shit. You've been here for what, a week?" Rafe steps closer to me as I do the same. My own eyes burning as I equaled his silent rage.

"What's it to you?" I voice back, my fists clenching gently as I control the urge to take his smirk off his face.

"Sweetheart, I own this place. Outer Banks, is my city." I scoffed stepping even closer as I showed him I didn't care.

"You know, only a rich, egotistical, socially-blind person would say something like that. And unfortunately, it seems you check all the boxes." His nostrils flared and I knew I had won.

"I can make your life a living nightmare." He threatened as the posse behind him began to speak louder.

"I'm already planning to make yours hell. Have a bad day, Rag." I smirked, turning away from the male as I walk back towards the shocked boys.

Uproar from the crowd behind us carried its noise over to us as I strolled up to my gang.

"Rafe, how do you know her?"

"What were you saying?"

"Who is that?"

"Am I gonna have to tell dad you almost got into another fight?"

"What the hell was that?" Pope asked as I picked up my surfboard from where it sat in the sand.

"I don't care about that, all I know was that it was really hot." I rolled my eyes as I smacked the back of JJ's head.

"Let's get this lesson over with. We burnt through enough daylight with those dumbasses."

"Surf on!" John B shouted pointing out to the water as they pulled me into the water.

"Come on, X. We just went through everything on the sand and you did great." Pope encouraged.

"That's because I was still on flat ground." I hissed as I felt myself start backing out once we reached the water lapping at the sand.

"Come on, X. You're a fighter for goodness sake, it's like being hit in the head for the first time. You just got to get over that fear by doing it." We all turned to look at JJ with a look of surprise.

"You know, sometimes you say the most out of pocket shit, JJ. But that was kinda motivational." I piped up as I turned to face the waves glistening in the sunlight. The scent of the ocean on the gentle breeze.

"Yeah, that was good. Might of worked." John B praised as I took the first step forward.

"Very motivational, JJ." Pope added shooting him a thumbs up.

"Alright, come on." I chirped as I pushed myself forward into the ocean. My knees coming up as I jogged to get deep enough to lay on my board and paddle.

The boys cheered behind me as they ran to catch up.

"We're right here with you." Pope added as he and John B paddled right up beside me as we made it into deeper water.

"And I am right behind ya." I rolled my eyes at JJ's comment.

"Of course you are." I mumbled, internally thanking myself for wearing my swim shorts with the bikini top. Still didn't cover much but at least it covered more than the bikini bottoms I was planing on wearing.

"We'll probably go out a little further before sitting and waiting on one of the smaller waves." John B informed as we slowed down and sat in a circle on our boards.

"Now, we wait for a wave." Pope said ominously as we calmly watched the ocean bring us a wave.
