"Why is he going up into the sky when there's a storm coming?" I pondered out loud as I stare at the lightening as it brightens up the sky.
"I've come to the conclusion that humans have this inability to choose self-preservation." I laughed at Pope, knowing he was joking as he chucked too. It was silent for a second before Pope began speaking again.
"Kiara, holding onto your grudge is like drinking poison and thinking Sarah will die."
"Exactly." JJ piped up agreeing with Pope.
"That was deep, Pope." I spoke propping my feet on the dash. My heels back on as I listened to the storm.
"Help!" I stuck my head out the window no longer listening to JJ and Pope talk to Kie about her deal with Sarah.
"Someone! Help!" My eyes widened as I leaned back in and ripped the door open. My feet were on the ground and moving as I listened to the person cry out again.
"Sarah!" I shouted over the boom of thunder. Recognizing her voice through the storm.
"Please somebody help!" I heard the three running behind me as I ate the ground with my strides.
"Sarah where are you?" I ran towards the hawk's nest my dress in my right hand as I gasped. My legs braking down as I tried to not break my ankle due to these heels. I dropped to my knees as the rest of them came running up behind me.
"Sarah, what happened?" Pope yelled as they joined the two of us. I checked John B's pulse as I surveyed the dark surroundings. Sarah let out a sob as she tried to speak.
"I don't know what to do. He needs help. Topper shoved him."
"Where the hell is he!" JJ yelled looking around as I did the same. Both of us ready to get the Kook who did this.
"Oh please, please, please get help. I don't care who. Just call someone."
"I can get Roy." I offered before I realized I'd left my phone in the Twinkie.
"My phone is in the car. Just call 911 he needs a stretcher and EMS, probably a hospital." I ordered as Pope took off back to the car.
"Pope, hurry!" Kie called after him as I started to talk to John B.
"Hey, B, we've got people on the way. You're gonna be okay. Alright? I know you're probably in a lot of pain right now." I started, keeping my hand on his pulse. "Don't talk, but I need you to try and stay awake. Can you do that for us, B?" He blinked a few times but each time he went longer and longer with his eyes closed.
I stood up, ready to run back to the car to make sure Pope found my phone.
"No, no, John B, stay with me. Please don't leave me." I turned hearing Sarah flip out, my eyes widening as I watched her kiss him.
"Oh shit." I whispered, getting antsy not wanting to stand around anymore.
"Pope, come on!" JJ roared out but I was already running back to the Twinkie.
John B wasn't going on my watch.
_______•*•*•*•_______
It was torture, waiting to hear whether or not John B was awake. Sarah had texted me earlier and told me she'd made sure I was one of the first to know. Of course I'd have to wait until John B reached out to the Pogues before saying anything so we didn't all come rushing in at once.
I got that text from her about ten o'clock when I rolled into the gym.
Around noon, we all got a text asking to meet at The Wreck at three from John B. Everyone quickly agreeing as I went back to work.
"I see Murphy has you on clean up duty." I slipped my phone in my pocket as I looked up at Ted.
"Just trying to make the gym look presentable. Inspector comes in a few days to check us out. Just want to make sure we pass with flying colors." I smiled waving my rag towards the windows.
"Y'all will do just fine. I don't think I've seen this place look better. Keep up the good work, Xena."
"Will do, enjoy your workout, Ted!"
I spent the rest of my shift cleaning. Windows and mirrors shined. Bathrooms and showers bleached and polished. Gym equipment, polished and sterilized. I even took a rag from one corner of the gym to the other and dusted like a lunatic.
The only thing left was a heavy deep clean of the floor. Scrub baseboards then sweep, vacuum, and mop the actual floor. Once that was done we'd be good as new.
"Kiddo!" I turned my head, sitting on the high bar station that were designed like monkey bars as Murphy made his way to me, "it's 2:50, don't you have to be somewhere at 3?"
My eyes widened as I grabbed the outer bar and slipped back through. My ribs argued with me but I pushed through as I dropped to the floor. My hands grabbing the cleaning supplies as I took off to put it back in the closet. I grabbed my backpack from my locker then slid in behind the desk working on clocking out.
My antics rushed and comedic as I couldn't help but make random noises as I ran around the gym. Acting like a lunatic.
"Be safe driving, Kiddo." Murphy called as I ran out the main doors and into the parking lot. I gave him a thumbs up as I zipped up my leather jacket, throwing my bike helmet on and pulled on my gloves.
I was a frantic mess by the time I rolled into the restaurant, running inside only to skid to a halt when I saw my friends waiting on me.
"Well, now that everyone's here. Spill it, John B." Kie spat. I cringed as I set my bag on the floor and sat down. My helmet in my lap as I didn't have time to take my gear off.
I really was too tired for their arguing if they were about to start.
