--Chapter 17--

*Mel's P.O.V.*

Joe checked me out from the hospital, and we were going out. I was still wearing my sweats and my shirt and it wasn't really the best outfit to wear on a date. Joe refused that I changed my clothes because he said what I was wearing was perfect. These pink sweats and baggy shirt with a one direction logo was perfect. Well that's a first.

We walked down the street and I ignored the people staring at the bruises on my face, my arms, everywhere.

My eyebrows knitted to a frown. "Joe, are you sure that the way I look is appropriate for our date?"

Joe smiled a toothy grin. "Yep," he said, popping the 'p.'

I crossed my arms. "Where exactly are we going?"

"We're off to Neverland!" Joe exclaimed. He hopped around and pretended to be Peter Pan.

"You're so childish," I laughed, rolling my eyes playfully.

He smiled and gave me a peck on the lips. "Would you like to be Wendy?"

I grinned at his cheekiness. "I would love to, but I can't fly like you. Just look at these bandages!"

Joe suddenly had a twinkle in his eye and I immediately knew he was up to something. He lifted my feet from the ground and gave me a piggy-back ride. He turned to look at me. "Now you're flying, Wendy."

I giggled as he led us to wherever he was leading us. Where? No clue.

He finally let me down as we reached Starbucks. "Wow. So, out of all the places, you're taking me to Starbucks?" I snickered.

"Well," he examined the ground before looking up at me. "It's still a bit early in the morning. Maybe you wanted to have breakfast?"

"Ok then."

He held my hand and we walked in Starbucks. I was already gaining stares because of my little outfit, but I didn't care. All that mattered was that I am with Joe today.

We went to the counter and the cashier lady. Her name was Tiffany - it says so on her name tag. She had blonde hair and blue eyes, and it's pretty obvious that she had a nose and boob job. She looked seductively at Joe as she bit her lip. She was obviously trying to look attractive, but she looked like an elephant to me. "What's your order, sir?" She didn't even bother looking at me.

Joe looked at me and gave me a warm smile. "What would you like Mel?"

"Uhm, I'll just get the Caramel Macchiato," I replied smugly.

"Ok then, a Caffe Latte for me," Joe said to Tiffany, who was giving me death glares.

She turned to Joe. "Ok sir, that would be 8 dollars."

Joe handed her the cash and we sat down a couch, sipping our drinks.

We just laughed and talked about how crazy this day was. Especially because of my little fight with Camille. Which wasn't really so little.

"So..." Joe began. "How did the fight with Camille begin?"

I laughed hard. "It was really silly actually. I was just buying bread, then she comes out of nowhere, then she slapped me and everything began."

"You looked pretty hot when you were fighting her," Joe winked at me, causing my cheeks to glow a bright red.

"Nah, I looked terrible," I mused as I smiled at the ground.

Joe grinned. "Stop lying. You looked amazing."

I laughed. "Stop flattering me."

Joe leaned closer, "What will you do if I don't stop?" he whispered in my ear.

"I will poke you."

Joe faked a gasp. "You wouldn't."

I poked him lightly on the stomach. "I'm sorry, I already did."

He put his hands over his mouth. "Let's play that way, then." He started poking me everywhere. From my cheeks to my thighs. When his finger landed on my stomach, I let out a whimper. The pain from Camille's punch was still evident.

"I'm sorry," Joe quickly said. "I forgot."

I forced a smile. "It's ok."

We headed out of Starbucks and we went to the local park. We spent our time pushing each other on swings and we bought some turkey sanwiches for lunch. We sat on the grass and we talked about everything. I found out what his favorite pizza toppings were and how big his feet are.

It was about 5 'o clock already and Joe and I were looking for figures in the clouds.

"That looks like a chocolate bar."

"Ice cream cone."

"Basketball."

I was just about to say 'mustache' when my phone rang. I picked it up quickly and I heard my mom's voice.

"Honey, where are you?"

"I'm here in the park mom. Why?"

"Come home quick. We need you now. It's important."

"Mom, what's so important?"

"We'll tell you when you get here. Just go home, Mel. Please."

"Ok, fine. Bye mom."

"Bye dear."

I sighed as I hung up the phone. I was in the middle of an amazing date with Joe, and she had to ruin it? Perfect timing mom. Just perfect.

"I have to go, Joe. My mom needs me."

Joe nodded. "Ok. I really had fun today Mel. I'll see you around?"

"Yeah, I'll see you around." I wrapped my arms around him and kissed his nose.

He scrunched up his nose and said in a whisper, "I love you Wendy."

"I love you too, Peter Pan." I laughed. "Bye now."

Joe waved good-bye. "Bye Mel."

I walked home, I don't know why, but I felt this uneasy feeling. What was so important? Why did my mom need me?

All these thoughts invaded my mind as I headed up to our apartment.

I opened the door to our apartment, and the sight made me want to cry.

"Honey," my mom began. "We have to tell you something."
