Dec was actually desperate to get back to London as soon as possible,so he could spend more time with Anne and two long weeks later,he was doing just that.

Well,that was when he wasn't working on the new album or doing personal appearances,or when Anne wasn't well enough to see him as she was still undergoing chemotherapy.

But they squeezed family time in whenever they could and Anne's brutal rounds of chemotherapy had their desired affect of buying her some more time,but Dec and his family worried about her constantly as she still insisted on keeping busy whenever she was up to it,she was definitely not a person who liked to sit around doing nothing and Dec was exactly the same.

He worked extremely hard at completing the new album and was very proud of the end result,which he delivered to his record company on his birthday.

He had told Ant that after it was finished,he wanted a little break away to celebrate his birthday,maybe just for three days as a birthday treat,but he thought he deserved it and Ant agreed.

So on his birthday,after dropping Melachi and Amira off at the dogsitters,Ant was driving along the motorway towards a hotel by the coast.

"I'm really looking forward to this" Dec smiled "just me and you in a beautiful location,it's going to be great"

"Absolutely" Ant beamed "you've worked so hard and have had so much on your mind with your mum and everything,you deserve this"

"You do too" Dec replied and patted Ant's knee "you work hard as well"

"Might not even leave the hotel room" Ant grinned cheekily.

"We'll see" Dec laughed "I'm just so looking forward to a break"

Just then he was distracted by a call coming through on his mobile.

"Hi Mum" he said cheerfully,assuming Anne was phoning him to wish him a happy birthday,but was shocked by the anger directed at him from the other end of the phone.

"You didn't want to come and see me because it's hard to be with me" Anne raged "because I'm so ill"

"What?...Mum,what on earth are you talking about?" Dec asked shocked "I just wanted to have a little break away with Ant"

"Did you not think it would be nice to come and see me on your birthday?" Anne shouted.

"Mum,I'm thirty six years old" Dec sighed "I don't need to spend all of my birthdays with my family"

"Well,that's what we always do in this family" Anne fumed "it's tradition,you have no right to change it"

"I have every right to do what I like on my birthday" Dec shouted back "you're being ridiculous"

Noticing how upset Dec was getting,Ant pulled over onto the hard shoulder,knowing he would need to comfort him once this awful call was over and done with.

The tears were already flowing down Dec's face as he was filled with frustration and anger at his mum's words and lack of understanding.

"Well,I guess I'll just spend the day thinking about how things were thirty six years ago when I selflessly brought you into the world then" Anne said sarcastically "and wonder what went wrong for me to have raised such a selfish son"

"That's so unfair Mum" Dec sobbed "I spend as much time with you as humanly possible,all I wanted was a little holiday to spend some time with Ant after completing my album"

"You do that then" Anne snapped and hung up the phone.

"Mum?...Mum?" Dec sobbed and looked towards Ant.
