"I umm..." Ant was already struggling with his speech before it had even begun,so Dec took hold of his hand and stroked the back of it with his thumb,looking up at Ant and mouthing "it's okay"
Ant nodded and took a deep breath.
"Thank you for coming" he repeated "so many familiar faces here and that just shows how loved Dec is by so many,
He could have easily have filled this taverna a thousand times over if he wanted to..."
"Don't know about that" Dec laughed,while still holding onto Ant's hand.
"Yeah,you could" Ant smiled "you have so many people who adore you...friends,family,fans and especially me"
"I adore you too" Dec whispered affectionately.
"Life is a funny thing isn't it?" Ant asked,now getting into his stride "there are a lot of 'what ifs'
As George Michael once sang 'turn a different corner and we never would have met'
I've thought about that a lot.
What if I hadn't gone into that pub for a quick pint all those years ago?
What if I hadn't noticed the familiar looking guy sat on his own looking sad?
What if I hadn't plucked up the courage to go over and say hello?and what if I hadn't persuaded him to give me a chance?"
"What if you hadn't stalked me you mean?" Dec cut in.
"Well,I'm glad I did" Ant grinned "cos look at us now,look at the life we have together,it is nothing short of amazing and I love every minute of being your partner,it's crazy,amazing,wild,loving,hectic and I wouldn't change it for the world...but do you know who I'm especially grateful to?"
"Who?" Dec asked curiously.
"Sebastian" Ant smiled,while glancing around the room.
"What?" Dec asked surprised.
That name was a real blast from the past and someone Dec hadn't thought about for years.
"For those of you who don't know" Ant continued "Sebastian was Dec's idiot ex boyfriend who dumped him the night before we met,broke his heart into a million pieces and I am truly sorry that he went through that,but if Sebastian hadn't done what he did,me and Dec never would have met...so thanks Sebastian"
Ant grinned at the people around him and raised his glass to the absent Sebastian.
"Anyway" Ant smiled "I just want to say happy 40th birthday to this amazing,beautiful,unique man,who I absolutely adore...Happy birthday Dec"
He leaned down and kissed Dec passionately.
"GET A ROOM" Pat shouted out playfully.
"We've got one" Dec shrugged "and we'll be making good use of it later on"
"Alright" Fonsey laughed "too much information,but great speech Ant"
"It was" Dec nodded proudly and started the round of applause.
"Thanks" Ant whispered sheepishly as he sat down.
"Okay" Pat beamed "who wants to hear from the birthday boy?"
