How? That is all I want to know, is how this is possible.
I can see him with my 2 eyes. I can't feel him with my 2 hands. I can hear him with my own 2 ears, but he can't hear me with his 2 ears. I can't get him out of his trance. He is just sitting there ignoring the world. Ignoring me. Ignoring everything in this room but what's in his hands. Until she walked into the room.
"Amber, ready to start playing cards again?" Drake asked.
Amber's face fell as she looked at him before making eye contact with me. "Just listen to me, Drake isn't really here."
"I can see him right there!" I shook my head, "how dare you lie to me! How dare you accuse me of lying to you when you knew he was here alive the whole time!"
"I am not lying! It's an illusion I created. It is old magick that I tried to muster up alone, but it didn't work the way I thought it would. You see, I was just trying to be able to communicate with him and find where he was. I didn't believe anyone when they finally decided he had to be dead. They searched for 9 months. I just couldn't accept his death. Yet, somehow I just created a hologram of sorts from my memory. I figured that was a sign, that since my magick couldn't contact him... maybe that meant he was gone. It was a sick confirmation, but a beautiful relief because I had him still. He was... with me in a way." She shook her head trying to prevent the tears from falling from her eyes. "This is how I have been coping."
If only dealing with death was that easy. Death can't be prepared for. It rarely gives you a warning, and even when you get those rare warnings, sometimes it's worse. Because you know it's coming. You know it will take them away, but you don't know when. You can only take it a moment at a time until it sneaks up on you and snatches them up.
You live life thinking one last sunset. One last dance. One last night of star gazing. One last love. One last kiss. One last time holding hands. But you never know when it truly is that last time.
Death is inevitable. Death will forever conquer the living. And the living? The living will continue to forever live.
We all cope in our own way, and I don't even know how I will cope with Frost when I allow myself time to grieve. Or maybe me focusing on my mission to save my people was my own way of coping, by keeping my mind off the Death I have seen so far. Either way, I was not one to judge how one should cope nor could I tell her how to do so...
"Well, all I can tell you is that he isn't dead." I stare at her as she blinks over and over again. "Did you hear me?"
"I heard you, I just don't really understand. You say he is alive, but if so, that spell should have worked." She looked at her hands.
"I am by no means, an expert on magick and Paganism, but he was in a different realm. Each realm has a different kind of magick. I am guessing you really aren't that experienced—"
"—hey!"
"—when it comes to the different realms. Due to that, that was probably why you couldn't reach him. But you can now, and I need you to redo that spell. Drake was kidnapped. I need help finding him." I continued as if she didn't speak at all. "I am from a Realm called Devour in the Yggdrasil. Our people have gifts and we are named after them. I am Vanish, and I can well, vanish. I can also reveal what can't be seen sometimes. When he was taken, I was put under a spell to keep me asleep during the whole thing."
"So what do you need me for? If you can reveal things like you say you can. then reveal where he is. Okay, let's say I believe you, and all of this is real, hypothetically speaking, I can't do much. As a Pagan, I can't do anything that is self-rewarding nor can I do anything to harm someone. That isn't part of my practice." Amber looked apologetic. It was all a facade, not a very convincing one on my part.
"First: I can't reveal locations. I can reveal traces and scenarios that went through that location I am at. Think of it like someone's aura leaving a trail. I see the scenario with their auras. They went through a Portal. I can't understand the Portals here. According to my companion, they are different here than at my Realm. I need your help. I can draw what it looks like for you. I think I had over extended my mind, and my gifts aren't exactly cooperating with me so I don't think I can show you.
"Second: I don't believe you when you say you can't do anything self-rewarding or to harm anyone. I know you don't believe in that. Third: I need you to locate him, create the Portal to get me there and another Portal to get Drake and his Father out of there."
"Uhm, what makes you think I don't believe in that? Those are the two main fundamentals of Paganism. Without those, I may as well be a... a Wiccan." She scoffed in disgust.
I reached into the pocket of my leather jacket and tossed the book on the table beside me. It slid across and landed on the edge closest to her.
"Wha--what is that?" She swallowed. She knew. She knew what that was.
"It's Drakes journal, but you already knew that. I read it. That's how I found out you lived here, and how I found out about that potion you two drank. The one where you dream about who you two would end up with." I crossed my arms. "That's how I found out you called him on whatever a phone is."
"I never called him. I didn't know he was here or alive. That spell and potion isn't suppose to show you who you would end up with. You see the last person you are ever going to love. We saw each other. And when he died... disappeared, I thought that was the end for both of us."
"You say that you both saw each other, but you know that's not true. He saw another girl in his dream and you put a spell on him to change his memory. I was able to open some of the Diary. However, I can't open all of it. If you could open it, that would help immensely."
"Vanish, there isn't much that I can do. I can try. I draw up the Portal. Meet me outside my house tomorrow night at 11 pm. Tomorrow is Saturday, which will benefit us by strengthening our attack once we find him and recreate the Portal. I will do a few spells to strengthen our defense and attack, while trying to ground you."
"Ground me?"
"In other words, help out with your abilities that are all outta whack. It will help keep your abilities in check and work how you want them to work. It helps us that the moon will be in Pisces tomorrow. I will have everything set up for us. Bring everything you need, I will bring what I need. We will get Drake back, we have to." Amber sounded as if she was telling herself that she was going to get him back more so than telling me. "But right now I have a Drum Circle coming. I can try and use that energy to channel to our aid for tomorrow. We need as much positive energy as we can get."
"I will be back with my companions. We may be in our true forms, be prepared because they look... intimidating." I warned. I turned around and looked at the fake Drake sitting there and putting down a card, then left the room as soon as possible.
I had a lot to tell Fenrir and Maddy, and I wasn't sure how they would react to it all. I had a plan set to go and 30 hours to prepare to execute it.
