"How did he do in Devour?" Jon, Drake's father asked me.
He lived, I thought. Barely and with my help.
I thought about the pack of wolves, the Cave, the critters, the Berkekong, the Nixi's, and everything else we encountered in this journey that he selflessly through himself into
"He did better than I had thought he would," I admitted. I never thought a human would be as brave as he was. "He had some minor set backs, but we got him back to the human realm safe and sound." I smiled.
"How did his bravery surprise you?" Jon asked me, and I knew what he was looking for; Jon wanted a story.
"There is this Cave in Devour, a very well known Myth among my people: the Liosalfer, also called the Light Elves. When little, it was an extremely scary story told to us to make us stay with our parents at all times. Anyway, we accidentally stumbled upon the Cave. We were trying to take cover during a rain storm that you humans refer to as floods.
"It is a Cave that once you go in, you don't come out. The chances of leaving are horribly low. The last known ones to live and exit were so long ago, this world didn't even exist. They told us stories, that were passed down, about their different experiences and that is what causes the village such nightmares; It makes you delusional, see and hear things you actually don't," like Pappy. "Do things you usually wouldn't do," like kiss strange boys you don't know. "You, basically, lose your mind. Lose yourself."
"The passages are always ever changing and the only way to maneuver is to not think about it. The halls change however they want. Creating new paths, destroying some. It, ultimately, is never the same. It never wants you with someone, only alone. It's a death trap and once you go crazy, being able to go where it is you need to go, you are so far gone that what is the point in trying to leave anymore? And time is different there, too."
"There are these critters there, ones that you have yet to see. They live there and separated Drake and I when trying to find Fenrir. One of the critters thought, and still does might I add, that I was their Queen, and helped us in the Cave to find Drake dangling in a cage in the air. He was going to be dinner. We had to fight to get him down and he was using the sword I gave him to use and it was ridiculous!" I laughed.
"What's so funny?" He smiled.
"Just picturing him using it. I am trained to be a master at weaponry so his attempts at it were quite amusing, but not at the time. He was just flailing it all over the place, with no purpose and I was afraid he was going to chop off his hand! But he didn't and he acted as if he was the most amazing, talented guy with the sword." I shook my head. "It was hilarious, really. He kept them away, though."
Jon laughed. "When Drake was a boy, his favorite game to play was a knight. We got him Armour and Swords, even a Shield. Now he was an actual Knight." He smiled. I remembered my Pappy telling me when I was little that those were their type of Warriors. "Please, continue."
"Uhm, anyway, he didn't get to kill many of the Critters, actually none. But the attempt counts. When Fenrir, the wolf, and I killed the majority of them, they all ran. We figured out that it was because of a dangerous Dragon. I ended up killing the Dragon, I promised to protect him and keep him safe. But the Berkekong Dragons blood is Poisonous and got all over me. He carried me out of the Cave once Maddy lead us there. He took me to a Lake and washed the blood off, promising to save me the whole way there." I ended.
"That's my boy," he smiled. "Why did you promise to protect him?"
"He promised to help me get my family if I brought him home safely." I answered truthfully.
