"Go away," I swatted at the hand poking my face. Who in their right mind, wakes someone up by poking their face with a stick? My face got poked again, "I suggest if you want to stay alive, you will leave me alone!" I grabbed the stick with my hand and chucked it behind me.
Snickers filled the Falls and my body went rigid. Usually, I wouldn't be alarmed by a 'snicker,' but this was snickers, as in more than one. I really didn't want to run into something until we got to the Svartalfer side of Devour. But when does any of my desires actually come true? Never. Why am I so surprised that I am confronting yet another inconvenient obstacle?
Peeking out from one of my eyes, I saw Fenrir being dragged into the forest, still asleep. I would say poor wolf, but I know it will be "poor creature" once he wakes up. Maddy was still in my arms, shaking out of his little critter shell. I wasn't sure if he was still asleep with a nightmare or knew these creatures that poked me, annoying little things, and was genuinely scared.
My back was turned to Drake still, and I wasn't sure if he was awake, asleep or dragged into the forest like Fenrir was. I couldn't hear him and I couldn't smell him, giving me an idea that he is either asleep or dragged away.
"Maddy," I whispered.
"Queen," Maddy whispered back, equally as quiet if not more.
"Do you trust me?" I asked.
"Trust Queen, yes!" He whispered with enthusiasm.
"Okay, good, because I have a feeling we need to fight, so can you do something for me?" I asked. He nodded slightly, barely moving at all. "They dragged Fenrir into the forest. I need you to go fight with him. Can you do that for me, can you go get him? I need a strong warrior for this mission."
"Yes! Yes! Maddy warrior!" Maddy sounded giddy. It took everything not to laugh at his excitement.
"On the count of 3, I am going to jump up and talk with them. When they seem to be distracted, I need you to run as fast as you can and wake Fenrir up. I will make you invisible." I hugged him close as another stick poked the back of my head, signaling my cue to jump up. "Get ready,"
I lashed out with the knife that was on my forearm, sticking it in the leg of a creature. Rolling on my back, Maddy on my side and in my other arm, I swung my leg around and side swiped him. The creature fell and I made Maddy transparent. "Run."
"Ow!" The creature said holding his leg wound. I stood up and spun towards where Drake used to be sleeping but now had a knife to his throat. I kicked the wounded leg, telling him to shut up.
"Leave my human alone," I said looking at who I assumed was the leader. A Nixi that was in the center of the lake. Nixi's annoyed me, being all "seductive" and "alluring men to their death." They were worse than mermaids and Sirens. They were, how humans would refer to them, as the zombies of the mermaids.
"Oh, my darling, that is something I can't direct them to do," the Nixi said, "but it is nice to meet the well known Blue haired Elve."
"I am sure it is," I replied dryly.
"Awe, that isn't like the polite young Elve I heard you were like," she smiled, clearly amused. "Let the young human go."
I looked at the male Nixi holding him hostage with a knife, seeing that the myth of the Male Nixi's could leave water and had a humanoid form. He dropped his arm to his side and spun Drake around to look at the female. I saw her charm leave her and capture Drake, easily. Humans were so easily manipulated, it was sad and only fueled my anger more.
Drake took a step forward as if in a trance. The Nixi in the water smile grew, glancing at me with a glint of evil in her eyes. "Drake, turn away from her!" I yelled.
