The Past is Thy Enemy.

"Let's go find Drake and that thing you are so infatuated with. Then, maybe, I will consider telling you all a few stories on our way to the other side of our Realm." He began walking away, but I appeared in front of him. He grunted at me, intimidating, but just a warning. Not that I thought he wouldn't do anything. I am 100% sure he would attack me. I just think he will pin me down, at most. Not hurt me.

"You will tell me, not 'consider' telling us a bedtime story. We are on a very important mission and I will not let you ruin the mission with your past when trying to attack the enemy!" I yelled pointing at him.

"The past is the enemy, little girl." He growled this time before sighing heavily. "Fine. Unfortunately, you are right and I regret to admit that. Let's get the kids then, shall we?" Fenrir looked over my shoulder, into the woods at the direction of Drake and Maddy.

"Did I just get through to you? Did Fenrir, the Big Bad Wolf, the meanest Hati Wolf  just have a wise moment?" Maybe, just maybe he was smarter than I thought. More experienced, I am sure. I am not quite sure how old Fenrir is, but I know how long they can live. They live long lives like us Elves, but how long has he been here for?

"Shut up," he growled out of the corner of his mouth as he pushed past me. I skipped along happily after him. Taunting him here and there. "Little girl, you are getting on my last nerve."

"Oh, I am sure I am, but I do have a question for you. Last one, I prah-mise." I sang with amusement.

"No, no more. I am tired of hearing your voice." Fenrir dug his heels into the ground, making me run into his hind legs by surprise. He lowered his head to the ground and started pawing at his ears. I laughed hysterically and pushed him down onto the ground. He just laid there, looking at me with hatred of a fiery passion.

I buckled over laughing so hard at the look on his face until something hit my side and took me down. My vision was covered and all I saw was darkness. Panic began to rise in my chest but then froze. Something didn't hit my side, no. Fenrir rolled over and took me down with him.

Fenrir was playing with me. Actually wiggling on his back on top of me while gnawing on my arm, gently, of course. I pushed against him and made him roll back onto his stomach. Fenrir put a paw on me, took it off, then pawed me again. It like he was tapping me, trying to get me to play as well.

This wasn't a side I was used to: I was used to the serious, angry and irritable wolf. I stared at him in confusion, not sure what will happen if I tried something. Would he freak or would he continue in this delightful mood?

I lifted myself up onto my knees and he nudged me with his muzzle, making me fall over. "Oh, really?" He howled in amusement."Okay, challenge accepted!" I lunged at him and made him roll onto his flank. Even straddling his side, my knees didn't touch the ground. Only my toes brushed against the brush of the forest floor. It was sad, really.

He rolled onto his back and I grabbed his front legs and started waving them around. He snapped at each hand and scratched my back with his hind legs. This was his inner dog coming out, how humans would say it. I jumped off and grabbed his tail, tugging a little bit.

He twirled off of his back and snapped at me before jumping up and falling onto the ground with his front legs dropped. "Come on, little girl." He panted, happily.

I jumped at him and tried pinning him down. He barked with happiness before running to the side, dodging me. I lunged again and he did the same thing, going to the side and dodging me. "If I throw a stick, would you play fetch?"

Drake's voice caught us off guard. Fenrir and I both jumped in surprise. "Ah!" I drew an arrow on my bow.

"Woah, woah! Put it down Vanish!" Drake held his arms up, and Maddy did the same. The difference was, Drake was scared while Maddy was smiling with his tongue out of his mouth. He was making fun of Drake and that had both Fenrir and I laugh at the same time. "Why are you laughing?"

"No reason. Let's head on to the other side. It is morning and Fenrir has a few stories to tell us on the way. Isn't that right, Fenrir?" I smiled and clapped him on the shoulder. He glared at me before turning around to walk to the other side. "Drake, I have to warn you, when we get there.." My voice died off.

"What is it?" He went for my hand, but I put it behind my back.

"The thing is, the creatures there on that side are worse. They aren't natural. The Svaltalfer creates sickness, plagues, terrible creatures from hell. Like those wolves and dogs on fire? They are like that and you have to stay out of our way. I promised I would get you home safe. You need to trust me and stay out of the way. The weapons on you are just for looks and are an illusion. That is all." I rambled on.

"That is true, human. Leave it to Vanish and I to fight. Vanish is one of the best fighters of the Light Elves. She has good instincts." Fenrir muttered up ahead. I smiled at his approval.

"Anyway, these creatures aren't gentle, they do not hesitate to kill and they will take us down at any chance we give them. We might have to fight our way to their castle and that alone will be hard. So we have to come up with a plan." I said slowly. I already had a plan formed in my head. One I had told Fenrir about and he agreed to the plan. That plan that we both shared was to only be between us. Drake was not allowed to know of it.

"Okay, what do you think we should do?" He asked me.

"When we get in there, there is going to be two passages. One takes you to the area of the enslaved quarters while the other goes to the King. Fenrir and I will go to the King and attack him and his men. You will go to the Slave quarters. You will find my Poppy and give him his sword, so we will switch of swords, of course. Maddy will go to the weapons area and will meet you at the slaves area then give them weapons. We will all fight our way back." I said, nodding with the plan I created off the top of my head.

"Weapons slaves!" Maddy chattered. I eyed him and nodded in approval. His part was real, at least.

"Seems simple enough."

"No, you will have his sword and you will have to use it. Just latch on to the sword and let it do it's thing. It is an enchanted blade. My Poppy can see everything that goes on through the sword and he can control it. He will let you either use it or not. It is all up to him." I looked at my feet. Poppy knew the plan as well. He was listening to Fenrir and I and moved the sword up and down in a nod. He approved of the real plan. He also agreed to not tell the other slaves.

"I can do that. Just hold on and it will swing around like it has its own mind." He smiled at me. "Seems easy."

"Oh, god. Okay," I drew my Poppy's sword. "Poppy, will you show him what I mean?" The sword moved in agreement and I handed it to Drake. Fenrir laid down with his head on his paws while Maddy and I stepped far.

The sword swung to the left slowly, then to the right. It slashed upwards and then downward to twist Drake around. "Woah, woah, WOAH!" Drake yelled, twisting and turning in circles. The blade was moving incredibly fast and I knew it was too fast for Drake. Tripping on his feet, Drake fell to the ground and dropped the sword.

"Keep it on you and practice with it. You obviously need it." I switched swords, happy to feel the tingle of the hilt of my sword jolt through my hand and arm. I had some of Poppy's gift, since we were related. That made my blade enchanted with me and made me good with the sword. Same with animals like Pappy. Or feeling strong emotions like my mother supposedly had. It ran in our genes and it faded through the generations.

"I can do that." Drake got up and followed behind us on our way to the other side. Only a few hours until we are there, and then it is game on.

And story time.
