Temptations

Chapter 14

Narrator's Pov~

Gwen was standing behind the counter at the cafe waiting for customers. It was early in the morning on a Saturday. She didn't usually come in during the mornings but Tyler asked her to take the shift since one of her coworkers wouldn't be there.

She made herself a coffee which she technically wasn't supposed to do but Tyler allowed her to do it anyways. She sipped her coffee and scrolled on her phone a little until the bell rang at the door and a tall guy about her age came in. He looked her up and down and gave a friendly smile which she returned.

"Hi! How can I help you?" She asked in her customer service voice that always made everyone laugh because it was so drastically different from her normal voice.

"Can I get a chocolate peanut butter blitz with a double shot of espresso?" he ordered and got his wallet from his pocket.

That's my moms order 💀

"Of course! That'll be $4.25."

She went to the back to make his coffee and he payed.

"Hey, I don't know if this is weird or not but do you want to go out sometime?" He asked and Gwen smiled nervously.

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I'm seeing someone right now." She said sympathetically and he nodded in understanding before leaving. After he left another person came in.

Gwen looked up and saw Lee's uncle standing in front of her.

"Pastor Rick! Hi, how are you?" She asked, quickly standing up straight.

"I'm doing well, and please, we're out of church just call me Rick. I hope you're well?"

"I'm doing just fine, what can I get for you?" She asked.

"Just a plain black coffee please and I'll leave a tip for you," He smiled.

"Oh you don't have-" She stopped when she saw him place a $100 bill on the counter. She knew their family was rich but not 'handing out $100 bills to people' rich.

"Take it, I'm sure you'll find something to spend it on." He said.

"Thank you sir, I'll be right out with your coffee."

Gwen came back with his coffee and he was about to leave but turned around to talk to Gwen.

"I've noticed you and Annalee are around each other a lot." He said and Gwen tried swallowing a lump in her throat.

"Yeah, she's really nice." She smiled.

"I'm so sorry to tell you Gwen but we're moving to Washington in a couple months so she can go to the college me and her aunt have been wanting her to go to." Gwen's heart dropped and all she could do was nod and tell him to have a good day.

After her shift was over Lee came to visit her to see how her day was going.

"Hey Gwen!" She said with her usually chirpy voice.

"Hey," She replied blankly which made Lee's expression turn to a worried one.

"What's wrong?" She asked, walking over to the girl who was sitting at one of the tables.
