"Hey, there's a couple customers coming in so just be prepared." My mom winked at me. Seriously. I'm 16 not a baby, I can handle a couple of customers.

The door bell rung and I turned my attention towards it just to see my aunts Gwen and Lee.

I gave my mom a glare and she laughed at me, patting my shoulder.

"Storey! Hi!" Aunt Lee ran on her tip toes and gave her a hug. They had been on vacation for the last couple of weeks.

"Hi guys!" My momma came out from the back.

"Eve! How are you?" Gwen smiled.

"I'm doing great, how was vacation?"

"It was amazing." Gwen winked at Lee and I internally barfed. Ew? Get a room?

"Hayden, you're working now?" Lee turned her attention to me.

"Um, yeah a bit, just until I can get a job somewhere else." I smiled.

"She's kidding. She's totally working here and we're totally paying her less than everyone else." My mom winked at me.

"No way, if anything I deserve to be payed more. I'm out here getting all the customers while you two are in the back probably making out." I rolled my eyes.

"You love us." Momma said.

"You're hair is getting so long, was it this long a couple weeks ago, love?" Lee turned to Gwen and she observed me for a moment.

"I'm pretty sure it was that long, babe." She laughed. After a moment of them just talking away and catching up on all of the gory details of vacation, someone walked into the shop.

We have a little bakery, nothing much just homemade pastries and cakes, etc. Most of the time we make cakes for parties or celebrations and whatnot.

"Hi! Can I help you?" I say before looking up from the register.

"Hi, can I get just a regular chocolate chip cookie?"

Her blonde hair was pinned up with a claw clip and she had a face full of freckles. Her eyes were the perfect shade of brown and reminded me of the kind of coffee my mom always makes my momma. She had on pink converse and a light brown tank top with a pair of high waisted—

"Hello?" Oh yes, she's a customer. And I'm working.

I clear my throat and smile.

"Of course," I enter it into the register and pull a cookie out from the glass container.

I wrap the cookie in tissue paper and put it in a little gift bag.

"$1.68," I said and placed the cookie on the counter.

She smiled and pulled a $5 bill from her wallet.

"Thank you, have a good one." She smiled and instead of answering I just stared. Like an idiot. I just stared at her.

"I'll see you around?" I said and she waved as she stepped out the front door.
