I knew this wasn't a good idea.
I knew I should have went with everyone when they went on that run to Atlanta, but I stayed because of Shane's wishes, and I listened. I don't know why I still listen to him, I may love him like a brother, but he can be irrational.. stupid.
That's what happened after Rick though, Shane seemed to stop thinking, when I, on the other hand, cant seem to stop thinking. I cant get his face out of my head, every time I close my eyes. But then we joined this group, or they joined us, but, hell, I can barely remember. It all happened so quickly, were all together, and I usually went with them on runs to Atlanta, Me and Glenn, but not this time. More people wanted to go this time, so Shane made me stay back to help protect who all was here, which in the long run I didn't care too much, but it just... hell it just sucks to know that they might be in trouble and I'm not there with them, Atlanta is very overrun, so if something were to happen to them...
"They should be back by now." I said quietly to Shane, but he just shrugged as he sat over by Lori, Ricks wife, who I knew had hooked up with Shane soon after Ricks death but I decided to stay out of it. I followed him and sat close by, Lori was cutting Carl's hair as he complained and wiggled.
"Baby, the more you fidget the longer this'll take, okay? so don't." Lori mumbled as she tried to get the boy to sit still.
"I'm trying." he replied with attitude evident in his tone.
"Well, try harder." she responded, making me chuckle a bit as Shane spoke up.
"If you think this is bad wait till you start shaving," he said, fixing himself in his seat, "That stings. 'day that comes you'll be, wishing, for one of your mommas haircuts."
"I'll believe that when i see it." Carl replied, smirking a bit, making me chuckle again.
Shane spoke up, looking at me before looking back to the younger boy. "Tell you what, you just, get through this with some, manly dignity, and tomorrow, I'll teach you something special." he then sent me an amused look, and I became just as curious as Carl as we both looked at him. Shane continued when he saw our curious faces looking up at him, "I'll teach you.. to catch frogs." he said, fixing up his gun again.
I smiled wide, remembering how Shane, Rick, and I, would all go down to the Creek not too far from our house and catch frogs. They were about 15, so I woulda been around 12. I was never good at it, but the guys were always patient with me. I miss those days, Shane always caught the most frogs, and he'd always take them home and cook them and eat them with us. Those were the days where we didn't have to worry. About anything at all.
Carl spoke up, "I've caught a frog before"
"He said 'Frogs', Plural." I said, glancing at Shane, "Hes probably the best teacher you could have in this topic, always caught the most frogs back in the day." I smiled at the many memories that flooded back, and I saw Shane do the same.
He nodded, "Damn right, y/n, it is an art my friend, not to be taken lightly. there are, ways and means, that few people know about and, I'm willing to share my secrets with you." he said, a playful smirk on his face as he winked at you and smiled at Carl.
Carl looked back at Lori, who just shook her head quickly, "Oh I'm a girl, you talk to him."
"Hey now," I mentioned, a playful look on my face now, "Girls can do it too, I might not have been much good at it, but it was Shane's Ma who taught him how to catch." I said as I looked at Shane again.
"That's right, " he said before chuckling, "Its a one time offer bud, not to be repeated." he said, going back to cleaning his gun.
"why do we need frogs... plural?" Carl asked, Lori still snipping away at his hair as she hummed lightly.
