At some point Carol went out to talk to Daryl, and I knew he wasn't up for a bunch of conversation. So while she went to try and talk to him, I stayed with Carl, he was laying his head down on my lap whilst I hummed a gentle tune to him. I was hoping I could get him to sleep, it was late. But both of his parents were gone, I knew he wouldn't go to sleep.

Yet I stayed there, holding him, humming a soft song to him.

Maggie came up to me holding a blanket, laying it on him, before she sat next to me. "You think they are ok?" She whispered, and I nodded.

"Yeah, this is my brother we are talking about, and he knows how you feel about Glenn and how Glenn feels about you."

"Well I'm not too sure he feels the same." She said, looking up at the ceiling.

"What do you mean?"

"Well.. I told him.. I told him I loved him, earlier today and.. And it was like I just slapped him. He didn't know what to say I guess, he didn't say it back. Maybe I rushed it.." She whispered.

"No, hon. He's just stupid and young and doesn't know how to just, feel his emotions. The way he talks about you to me, he cares. Hell, he loves you to pieces."

She smiled and breathed out a small laugh. "Yeah.. I guess your right.."

"You guess? Well that's not too convincing." I smiled at her, and she turned to me to return the gesture.

"Hey, kids out." She pointed to Carl.

"Yeah, dunno how long that will last he's exhausted but.. You know, his parents are out and about and he's worried."

She nodded, "I know, we all are."

"How's Beth?"

"She isn't dead so, I'd say she's doing fine." Maggie nodded.

"Gosh don't even joke about that, i cannot deal with another death this month. Hell, I've had enough for the rest of the year."

"Yeah, I get it." She nodded.

"Hey, you go get some rest. Ok? You've been through hell today, you need it."

"You sure?"

"Positive. I'll be just fine out here."

And I was, holding Carl in my arms as he drifted in and out of sleep, we were fine.

Everything was going to be fine.

We heard the car roll up, and around that time Carl had woken up, so we walked out there.

"See kid? I told you your mom was one tough lady." I said, knocking his hat back and he smiled up at me.

Once we got there,  Lori had grabbed Shane and was yelling at him, but then Shane spoke up and put Carl in for a shock.

"First things first- I gotta, gotta look after you. I gotta make sure the baby's all right. Okay?"

Everyone went dead silent, well, I mean dead dead silent, not, groaning and shuffling around silent.

"Your having a baby?!" Carl asked, stepping up to his mother. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"Carl- honey please-" I started

"And you knew?!" He asked, turning quickly to face me. "And didn't tell me?!"

"I-I figured it was your mother's place to tell you kid.."

He just stood there, dumbfounded, before Dale spoke up.
