Chapter 11 - The Hunt

"Her trail went cold. We'll pick up again at first light."

That's what I heard my brother say before I turned around and sat in one of the now empty cars. If she is out there all night long all alone in the woods with how the world is right now.. God, I hope she finds a place to hide. A house, climbing up a tree, a hole even. Just something so we can find her and being her home.

And I understood why the boys don't wanna go out and search for her in the dark, they'd get lost too, and it would be harder to follow her trail. She's just so young, it's scary.

After a while of isolating myself, I heard a tap on the window. It was Glenn. I opened the door and let him in.

"Hey Y/N.."

"Hey Glenn." I looked at him, "so, what's the news."

"Well, uh, they said we would all continue to search for Sophia tomorrow. Rick said it was gonna be an organized effort." He said, watching me, "and they found a Walker, but they made sure it was never near Sophia, they cut it open."

I nodded, "so Sophia is safe as far as we know? How long will that last?" I just sighed and tapped the wheel. "So we search for her tomorrow?"

"That's what Rick said."

"Alright. Alright you go on back to wherever your sleeping now. I'm gonna stay in here, be alone for a little bit."

He nodded, and left the car. I pushed the seat back so I could lay down, and locked the doors. I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight, but it was worse than I thought. Eventually though, I heard another tap on the glass, and without looking, I unlocked the door.

"Woman what are ya doing out here all alone. Before Glenn told us all where ya were we thought ya ran off into the woods again."

"I needed some breathing room, gather my thoughts." I said lightly. Then I turned to face him, "that little girl is still out there Daryl.. And with how the world is right now.. How do we know it's ok?"

He sighed and sat in the car with me, shutting and locking it as it was before. "I guess we don't, but, I have.. I have hope that she found shelter of sorts. That she found a safe place. And I'm gonna do all I can to find her. I promise."

"How's Carol holding up? Is she ok?"

"She's scared, and a bit upset with Rick, but I don't blame her really. I mean she's handling it better than I did with Merle." He said.

"And I'm still convinced Merle is out there. He is one tough son of a bitch."

He chuckled, "that he is. He's stubborn too, dumbass wouldn't let himself die even when he was bleeding out."

"See? Solid proof. We will find Merle."

He nodded, "yeah. And that little girl too." He cleared his throat, and unlocked and opened the door, but I quickly grabbed his hand.

"Uhm.. Could you.. Stay with me?"

He sighed, but nodded as he shut the door. "I'd never leave."

The morning went like this.

I woke up, Daryl's gone.
I go outside, everyone is getting ready to go out.
Andrea and Dale had an argument that was extremely painful to listen to.
T-Dog only is worse and Dale stays with him, Dale also fixes up the RV so when we find her we can leave this highway.
We go out in one big group to search for Sophia.

That's where we were now, in the woods searching for Sophia. Shane was being awfully dismissive of Carl, which was also painful to see. After seeing Shane day after day be fun and playful with him, to turn so randomly, was awful to see. Carl tried to show Shane the blade he was holding, only for Shane to get snappy with him.
