The days following were strange. Once the building blew, well all continued driving. We we're hoping for For Benning. At one point, Rick had gone off again to try and talk to someone named Morgan. Soon after that though, we were back in the road. Several times we had to stop to siphon gas into our vehicles, and we left Daryl truck behind, now he was only with Merles bike. So now I rode in the RV, sitting on the floor by Glenn's feet.

"Do you think something is gonna be there for us? At Fort Benning?" I asked him lightly, looking up at him.

He sighed, and shrugged. "I'm trying to stay positive but.. I don't know. After the CDC, it's been hard to find hope." He admitted, and I nodded.

"Yeah.. God we almost died."

"Don't think of it like that. We got a second chance, and were gonna run with it." Glenn said, looking down at me. "We will survive, I promise Y/N."

I stood up and patted his knee as I moved to the back. "Thanks Glenn." I whispered to my best friend as ioved to the back of the RV. I saw Shane teaching Andrea how to clean her gun, and soon after I went back there I felt the RV slowing, then stopping.

"Oh jeez.." Dale muttered.

"Oh.. God.." I murmured as I looked out ahead of us. Cars littered the highway, we'd never make it through. Daryl coming back just proved my point, but surprisingly enough he said he saw a way through. We slowly moved through the cars. It was quite a disturbing mess.

"Can we get through here?" Glenn muttered as we weaved in and out of dead cars, before we all heard a loud sound from the Engine of the RV as a white steam blocked our vision. The engine sputtering was such an awful screeching noise, and that's all we heard as we stopped. We looked over at Dale, before piling out.

"I said it, didn't I say it?" Dale sighed as he moved to the front of the RV. "A thousand times. Dead in the water."

"Problem Dale?" Shane asked as he, too, walked out of the RV.

"Just a small matter of being stuck in the middle of nowhere." Dale replied.

"Hey it's gonna be alright, hundreds of cars on this highway, I'm sure at least one has stuff we can find to fix it, yeah?" I said, motioning to the cars that surrounded us on all sides.

"There's a whole bunch of stuff we can find." Daryl said as he rummaged through a trunk.

"I can siphon more fuel from these cars for a start." T-Dog said

"Maybe some water?" Carol asked.

"Or food." Glenn added.

"This is a graveyard." Lori said to us all, and we all looked at her like she was crazy.

"Lori, this is the best thing we've come across since the CDC and even that wasn't too fantastic near the end, so please, if you don't wanna help loot and search, stay with the kids. Ok?"

She sighed, "I don't know how I feel about this."

"All right all right, here we go." Someone to my right muttered.

I sighed as I moved to search a car, hearing Shane speak up, "come on y'all. Just look around. Gather what you can."

--

I hadn't found much of use, but I did manage to score two blankets, a protein bar, a water bottle, and a sweet ass pocket knife, before Shane started hooting out because he found a truck full of gallons and gallons of water.

Then the dread set in. We heard a few walkers, but when we looked back, it was a very large hers coming straight at us.

"Shit.. Shit shit shit under the cars!" I whisper-shouted out to everyone, as I slid under a car, Daryl under the one across from me. He must have seen me shaking a bit, cause he just held his finger to his lips, and looked back. I was too afraid to look anywhere else but him, Walker feet making it difficult as what seemed like hundreds of them passed by for what felt like hours.

But then we saw T-Dog, he was bleeding out from a cut, very very heavily, and a Walker was after him. Daryl crawled out from under the truck, and killed it silently. He shushed T-Dog, layed him down, and layed the now dead Walker over T-Dog as a way to keep the rest from noticing him, then did the same to himself with a close by dead walker as more came.

Then it was over. As soon as it had started it was over. Daryl threw the walkers off of himself and T-Dog and I rushed over to help carry him. Then I heard Sophia scream, and I shot up, looking over to see her emerging from under a car as two walkers chased her and she ran into the woods. Not a second later Rick was on their tail, sprinting through the woods to get her.

"Oh my god Daryl Sophia is out there, that poor little girl she's out there." I whispered, only imagining how her mother felt right now. We all ran over to the edge of the highway, where we saw Rick emerge without Sophia.

"Oh.. God!" Carol cried as she turned away, and I immediately comforted her.

Rick, Shane, Daryl, and Glenn all went out again to find her while the rest of us stayed behind. Me and Lori comforted Carol while Carl was in the RV with Andrea and Dale kept an Eye on T-Dog. Soon though, Shane and Glenn came back and told us they were on her trail. Then we created a sort of wall of cars to keep us all safe, some helped move cars while others searched and scoured others, I was on car mover duty.

Carol was a mess. She came up to Dale after finally moving from the edge of the road, asking why we weren't all out there looking for Sophia.

"We have to clear enough room so I can get the RV turned around as soon as it's running." Dale explained. "Now that we have fuel we can double back to a bypass that Glenn flagged on the map."

"We're not going anywhere till my daughter gets back." Carol said.

"Of course not hon, we will wait until Sophia gets back and the guys will find her, Daryl is the best tracker I know, if anyone can find her it's him." I said gently and smiled at her.

"Yeah, that goes without saying.x Lori added on.

"Yeah, Rick and Daryl, they're on it. Ok? Just a matter of time."

"Can't be soon enough for me. I'm still freaked out from that herd that passed us by. Or, whatever you'd call it." Andrea said as Carol walked away to the edge of the road again.

"Yeah, what was that?" Glenn asked. "All them just marching along like that?"

"Fairly similar to what we've seen in Atlanta before." I added.

"A herd. That sounds about right." Shane nodded, looking at Andrea. "We've seen it, just like Y/N said, I know y'all seen it in Atlanta and the night camp got attacked. Only at the camp it was some wandering pack, only fewer." He cleared his throat. "Come on people, we still got a lot to do." Then we all went back to work.

---

After many hours, I started to get worried because soon it would be getting dark. A couple hours before, Shane got an emergency broadcasting signal from a car, but it was just the same stuff as before. How to avoid the infected, how help was coming. Bullshit. But now it was getting later and I was worried for my brother, Daryl, and that poor girl out there. Carol was worried too, I could see that, we all could.

But then I saw my brother, emerging from the woods with Daryl. But no Sophia. Sophia wasn't with them. She was still out there. Oh.. God..

Hello! I think I'm gonna try and bust out another chapter tomorrow, but no promises, and since school has been hectic I wouldn't expect anything more than 1 or 2 posts within the next two weeks. I'm so so sorry for that 😭
