The next morning, I saw Shane had shaved his head. I don't know how much I liked it, made him seem more menacing.. And he seemed different but, whatever.

We all gathered outside and put stones in a wheel barrel so we could have a funeral for Otis. I didn't ever meet him but I wanted to be there for these people, they helped my friend T-Dog, and they saved my nephew who I love as my own son. I wanted to do right by them.

But soon enough I heard the all too familiar sound of Daryl's bike, and a smile broke across my face as I saw Daryl pull in with a car and RV following behind him. I broke into a run to meet them.

I smiled at Daryl once he got off his bike, but I wanted to hug him. He nodded at me, smiled a little bit. I walked up to him, putting my hand on his shoulder. "Im so glad to see you again." I whispered.

He smiled at me, "yah can't loose me that easy." He looked up at Rick as he came out.

Dale spoke up from behind us, "how is he?" He asked, looking right at my brother.

"He'll pull through." Lori answered, nodding with a smile on her face.

"He's a tough kid." I nodded, adding on to what Lori had said. "Thanks to Hershel and his people, Carl is gonna be ok. "

"And Shane. " Rick added. "We'd have lost Carl if not for him."

Dale moved to hug Rick, Carol to hug Lori, and Andrea hugged T-Dog. I knew Daryl isn't much of a hugger- well I assume he's not much of a hugger- so I patted his back, making a smirk break across his face, but he his it away quickly.

"How'd it happen?" Dale asked

"Hunting accident." Rick answered. "That's all- just a stupid accident."

Soon enough we stacked the rocks for Otis. I stood between Glenn, who had his hat off to show respect, and Daryl, who had his hands tucked under his armpits. I had my hands behind my back as I watched them do what they needed to do, everyone was silent to respect the Greens.

"Blessed be God, father of our Lord, Jesus Christ." Hershel started, he was leading the ceremony for Otis. As we all listened, one by one the people who lived her picked up a rock and stacked it on the pile. Hershel looked to Shane as he finished up, "shane, will you speak for Otis?" He asked.

"I'm not good at it. " he said quite Dismissivly. "I'm sorry."

"You were the last one with him." Patricia said through tears. "You shared his final moments. Please. I need to hear, I need to know his death had meaning." She said as she cried.

Shane looked at her, before swallowing, "okay.. " he said quietly. "We were about done. Almost out of ammo. We were down to pistols by then. I was limpin. It was bad. Ankle all swollen up. " we've got to save the boy." See, that's what he said. " Shane said as he looked to the pile of rocks. "He gave me his backpack, he shoved me ahead. "Run, " he said. He said, "I'll take the rear. I'll cover you." And when I look back.. " he said, looking distant, like he was back there with Otis.

He started to move forward towards the wheelbarrow with the rocks, "if not for Otis, I'd have never made it out alive. And that goes for Carl too. It was Otis. He saved us both. " he looked back at Patricia, "if any death ever had meaning, it was his." He assured her.

I felt a hand gently hold my shoulder, looking over to see it was Daryl's, he had looked down at me, gave me a small smile that was so quick I almost missed it, before we both looked back up to Shane, who had just placed a rock on the rock pile.

And I could tell right then, this was the start of something big, and possibly, not good.

"How long has this girl been lost?" Hershel asked as we all sat around one of the cars, devising a plan.
