I had come down after about an hour when someone else traded shifts with me, and I walked around, watching everyone start to put things back together as best they could. But I froze when I saw the names on the wall.
The last two.
Nicholas and Glenn.
I walked over quickly and made the woman who was painting their names stop. "Hey- hey, we don't.. We don't know for sure yet let's just... We don't know for sure yet" I said softly. "Maybe they are still-"

"And if they aren't?" The woman asked as she looked up at me and sighed a little. "... Even still, we shouldn't forget" she said quietly as she turned back to the gate.

"... Ok... Alright." I sighed softly and turned away. If they wrote Daryl's name... I wouldn't want to see.

After a while longer of walking around, helping drag dead bodies- both ours and not- off the streets, I saw Rick up in one if the watch posts. So I decided to join him.

"Hey." I sighed as I stood next to him, looking out at the hell that continued to surround our place of living.

"Hey." He said back, nodding a little bit. "How are you two holding up?"

I smiled a little and place my hand on my stomach. "Missing him... You think he's ok?" I ask quietly. "I mean I'm looking out and... How will I ever see him again Rick?"

"This isn't how it's gonna be forever y/n. I promise you that." He patted me on the shoulder a little. "He's tough, you know that."

"Of course I do but... I still worry." I sighed and lean back against the wall lightly.

"Well worrying won't do you any good, you'll just freak yourself out more. Just calm down. We'll figure this all out, ok? And then Daryl will come back, so will Glenn, Sasha, Abraham, Nicholas, everyone. Ok?"

"You can't promise me that."

"I can have hope."

"Your still going off of hope?"

"Y/n... What else have we got?"

I almost replied when Ron climbed up and joined me and Rick, looking out at the hundred of walkers that surrounded.

"... That's right... You haven't seen it yet..." I said quietly as I looked at the kid.

"No." Ron replied back quietly. "Enid, she- uh.. She used to sneak over the walls," He told us as he finally looked away from the sea of death and back at me and my brother. "Spend time out there. You know- I don't know why. She just wanted to. But, um... I think she went out there after the attack."

"What, she's still out there?" Rick asked quickly

"... Yeah." Ron sighed. "We don't know where she is. You know- but she knows how to take care of herself." He continued as Rick let out a heavy sigh and I ran my fingers through my hair. "... And we can't go out there.." Ron added as he pointed to the herd. "Carl wanted to try. I stopped him. I told him I'd tell you both if he did. And then... Uhm... I dunno, I just thought u should tell you-"

"Do you know where he is now?" Rick asked firmly.

"Yeah, he's back at the house." Ron told us. "I saw him on the porch with Judith." Rick sighed and looked out over Alexandria.

"Rick... Go. I'll keep watch." I said softly.

"It's alright, I can stand guard if you guys want." Ron offered.

"Nah, down there? They're guarding the place now. This is just about keeping an eye out for the others, that aren't back, looking for a sign from Glenn." Rick explained.

"Alright." Ron said, nodding.

"Thank you." Rick patted the boy on the shoulder before descending down the watch post.

"You can go too y/n. I've got it here."

"You sure you know what your looking for kid?" I asked softly

"Anything that looks like a sign, or a car or bike pulling up." He replied.

"... Alright... Alright." I sighed heavily and looked at Ron. "... I don't want you coming down unless someone takes over for you, ok?"

He nodded. "Yes ma'am."

I nodded in response, before starting to make my way down, before Ron stopped me.

"Hey uh.. I've been thinking about what you and Rick said back at the quarry. And, uh.. I mean, your right. I need to know how to protect myself. My mom, and brother." He said as I nodded in understanding to what he was saying. "This place.. So.. Can you teach me how to shoot?"

I took a moment to think, before sighing and pulling my gun from its holster, popping out the clip, and holding the gun for him to look at it. "Listen here. Don't tell your mom I did this because I'm sure she'll have my ass. But your right. You do need to learn. So your first lesson? This isn't a toy. If you pull the trigger you mean it. Got it?"

"Got it, not a toy." Ron nodded.

"Good." I pointed the gun and showed him how to aim it. "This is your target, ok?" I said as he took it and i watched him aim. "Now relax, don't be so tense."

He nodded a little and he relaxed his shoulders, keeping his aim.

"You got it?"

"Mhm."

"Then you'd pull the trigger. Always aim for the head. if you don't get the head then you've just wasted a bullet and the thing is still coming at you. Ok?"

"Yeah.. Ok." He nodded, before handing me my gun back.

"... I'm sure once we've got everything back in order there will be training stations. Training grounds where we can show you, and teach you how to shoot a gun. Mmkay?"

"Yeah, thanks. For this, anyway. It's better than nothing."

I smiled a little and patted his back, before I climbed down the latter to find something to busy myself with.

It was dark out, Carl had gone to sleep at this point, Rick was out, and I was rocking Judith in a rocking chair.

I thought Carl had gone to sleep anyway.

"Aunt y/n." I heard his voice as he sat on the floor by the chair.

"Hey kiddo." I said quietly and put my hand on his head. "You feeling ok?"

"Yeah just... I'm scared. And I hate.. Feeling scared. Because of the things we've seen- I shouldn't be scared anymore."

I shook my head. "No.. No no no, kiddo.. Because of the things you've seen you should be scared. It keep you on your toes. Keeps you alert. I'd be more worried if you were settling in and were super comfortable. As awful as that sounds." I sighed deeply and start rocking again. "Just... Being scared isn't a bad thing. Alright? In this situation... It's good." I gently pulled his head into my side and kissed the top of his head. "It's ok to be scared... But as of now... Your safe." I whispered.

I hated having to say that.
But he deserved the truth.
He's not a child anymore.
And as much as I hate to say it...
He can't be treated like a child anymore.
He deserves the truth.

As much as I hate to say it.
We can't sugar coat it anymore.
