It was morning, now. Rick sat by the car all night, Carl and Michonne inside of it still, and I don't blame them. After last night...

I followed Daryl as we went and grabbed a water bottle, and we walked back up to Rick.

I gently took the bottle from Daryl, and the rag out of his back pocket. I started to pour some water on the rag.

"Save it to drink." Rick said, shaking his head.

"You can't see yourself. He can." Daryl said, motioning to the car.

I knelt down to Rick, and helped clean him up. Daryl sat down by us, and I continued to clean Rick's face.

"I didn't know what they were." Daryl explained to us.

Rick nodded as I finished up, cleaning him as good as I could. "how'd you wind up with them?" He asked.

I sat between Daryl's legs and looked up at him.

Daryl sighed, "I was with Beth. We got out together. I was with her for a while." He looked like he was struggling, so I gently took his hand in mine.

"Is she dead?" Rick asked.

Daryl looked at him, "she's just gone." He said quietly. I layed my head on his chest, and he wrapped his arms around me. "After that.. That's when they found me. I mean, I knew they were bad, but.. But they had a code. It was simple." He sighed, "stupid, but it was something. It was enough."

"And you were alone." Rick nodded in understanding.

"Said they were looking for some guy." Daryl continued. "Last night they said they spotted him. I was hanging back. I was gonna leave. But I stayed." He swallowed hard. "That's when I saw it was you 4. Right when you saw me. I didn't know what they could do."

"It's not on you, Daryl." Rick said softly. Daryl was spaced out, so I cupped his face softly.

"Hey," I said gently, my voice slightly raspy from spending a good section of the night either screaming or crying, making him look at me. "It wasn't your fault."

He looked down again, before my brother spoke up. "You being back with us, here, now, that's everything." Daryl looked down at my brothers words, then Rick spoke up again, "you're my brother." He said to Daryl.

Daryl held my hand, before looking at Rick. "Hey, what you did last night... Anybody would have done that."

"No, not that." Rick shook his head.

"Something happened." Daryl sighed, holding me close. "That ain't you." He said, looking at my brother.

"Daryl, you saw what I did to Tyreese." Rick sighed. "It ain't all of it, but that's me. That's why I'm here now- that's why Carl is. And y/n. I want to keep them safe. That's all that matters." He said, rubbing my shoulder gently, but I hissed in pain, my gunshot wound not quite healed yet.

Daryl pulled me off of him a bit, and lifted my sleeve to see my arm, the bottom of my shirt I had used as a bandage was red and gross now.

Daryl shuffled through his bag, before he pulled out another rag, getting it wet, and whiped me off. "Was this back at the prison?" He asked, and I nodded.

"After that... I tried to find you, for days." I sighed as he cleaned me up. I almost told him about Merle, but I didn't.

I glanced at Rick, and he nodded to me, before standing up, walking to the other side of the car.

"After a while I found a pharmacy." I swallowed, grabbing my bag, and pulling something out, setting it in the ground.

Daryl looked down at it, then back up at me, eyes wide.
