Toni
I was jolted awake by the sound of my cell phone ringing. It took a minute, but I finally fully woke up. Reaching over to the side table, I grabbed my phone and answered. "Hello."
"Hello, Mrs. Braxton. This is the secretary at HighTower Elementary School."
"Yes."
"We're calling to inform you of an incident that happened with Tristan and Thomas today." I immediately sat up causing Janet to wake up.
"What type of incident?"
"An altercation within the classroom with the teacher. We are asking that you and your wife come up to the school to talk with the principal about the repercussions for them."
"Repercussions? First of all, what happened?"
"You will be notified of that when you speak with the principal." I hung up.
"Janet." I tapped her. "Janet." She would not wake up all the way. "There's something going on with the boys at school." She shot up.
"The fuck you mean? What happened?"
"Don't know. Let's go." She jumped up immediately, grabbed her purse and rushed out of my office. "Wait for me." I quickly got my things and left. "Jessie, reschedule my meetings. I won't be back today."
"Gotcha." I rushed out the building to catch up with Janet but by the time I got out there, she was pulling off in her car. I quickly got in mine and sped off behind her. I pressed the voice command on my steering wheel.
"Call wife."
"What?!"
"I'm going to need you to slow down."
"Why the fuck should I?"
"Because I don't want you to get into an accident." I watched as her car reduced in speed. "Thank you. Now if you get there before me, wait for me."
"Fine." She hung up. I changed my direction for a faster route, because I knew that if she got there first, she wasn't going to wait.
In my mind, I thought about all of the bad things that could be going on with my boys. I'm going to try and stay cool because I know Janet. I know she's going to lose her shit if something happened to them. One thing you never do is mess with a woman's child, especially a black woman and I am truly worried about whoever is going to be on the receiving end of Janet's wrath if something is wrong.
I pulled into the school parking lot and luckily, Janet wasn't there yet. Getting out, I stood at the school entrance and waited for Janet. I knew she couldn't be far behind. Just as I thought that, I saw her car zoom into the parking lot. She immediately parked next to my car. Perfectly, I might add. It's ironic how when I first bought her that truck she refused to drive it and now she's driving it like a pro.
She jumped out and stormed towards the school. I immediately stopped her. "Uh uh. We not doing that."
"Let me go into the school, Toni. They said something happened with my babies and I want to know whose head I need to crack open. No one hurts our babies."
"Yes, that's true. But we also know our boys. They take after me with that mischievous stuff. Just like they take after you with intelligence. Let's hear what they have to say first and then go from there. Okay?" She was still mad. I picked her up and wrapped her legs around my waist. Damn, I low key forgot how small she was.
"Put me down, Toni." She folded her arms and rolled her eyes. She had a pout on her face. Yep, she's definitely the twins' mother. I moved us to where she was against the side of the building.
