Jimin staggered through the opulent halls of the mansion, his senses dulled by the alcohol coursing through his veins. Each step was a struggle, his movements uncoordinated and jerky as he leaned heavily against the walls for support. He tried to remember the way to his newly assigned quarter situated at the other end of Diva's chamber. Though the size of the mansion made the distance between the two rooms considerable, it was a futile effort of his father to keep his body away from Diva when his heart was still bound to her.
Soon enough Jimin caught the attention of men doing the night shift, who rushed over to help him inside the living spaces followed closely by a concerned feminine voice expressing her worry for Jimin's wellbeing. Once inside, Jimin collapsed onto the couch and attempted to take his shoes off only to realize he wasn't wearing them. The alcohol had clouded his mind to the point where even his own feet were beyond his awareness.
"Jimin" The voice called again but his eyes failed to put a face to it.
"What have you done to yourself?" The high-pitched voice cut through the haze of his thoughts. He felt a glass of water being pushed to his lips but he yanked it away, the sound of shattering glass jolting him back to his senses.
He grabbed the person tending to him and pulled them close, "Diva?" he called her out but when his brain processed his mother's face instead disappointment replaced anticipation.
The change in his expression wasn't missed by Jiah. In fact, she was all so familiar with the look, thanks to his father. A mixture of hurt and jealousy exploded inside of her and when Jimin stood up ignoring her presence her feelings translated into a stern voice.
"I have been waiting for you ever since I heard about your arrival but you never came to see me. Why didn't you come to see me? What was more important than visiting your mother?" she demanded, her voice firm and unwavering.
Jimin hesitated, his eyes flickering with emotions she couldn't decipher. Jiah could tell that he was struggling with something, but she didn't wait for him to speak.
"Don't tell me you went to see her first!" Jimin's mother's voice dripped with disdain for the girl in question, her eyes narrowed as she spoke.
Jimin let out a huff in frustration, knowing all too well where the conversation was headed. It was a pattern they had fallen into - his mother projecting her fears and insecurities, stemming from a failed relationship onto him like a shadow.
"Mom, I don't want to talk right now. Can you please leave? I need some rest" Despite his state, Jimin requested in a calm voice but his mother was already on the attack, her words sharp as knives.
"Is that girl all you care for now? Is she why you hardly ever called me in three years?" Jimin felt his own frustration bubbling up, his heart racing as he struggled to keep his temper in check. But he knew better than to argue. It never did any good. Instead, he forced himself to take a deep breath and stay calm, hoping that somehow he could get through to her.
"Mom, not now," Jimin pleaded, his voice barely above a whisper as he pulled his hands away from her desperate grasp.
"How can you be so like your father?" She spat hauling him harshly to face her
"How can you do this to your mother?" Her voice was filled with hurt, tears streaming down her face as she struck out at him with a fist.
"How can you abandon me like this? How can you be so selfish?" She continued venting out years and years of anger and disappointment by hitting her son repeatedly
"Just like your father, "The words she spoke made Jimin recoil as if struck. The accusation hit him harder than her physical blows. He tried to stand his ground, tried to hold on to his own sense of self, but it was hard. It was always hard when it came to his mother.
"I am being selfish?" he asked, his voice shaking with emotion. "I spend my entire life atoning for your wrongdoing. My entire childhood was gone paying for your sins, and now I am the one who is selfish?"
The shock on Jiah's face was evident as she heard the words that he had never spoken before being broadcasted loud and clear. She could only whimper listening to her son pouring the truth upon her like gasoline.
"You ruined my life," Jimin continued, his voice raw with pain and anger. "You and him both." He was heaving as his words fired rapidly. "You made me suffer for your choices. Then you blamed me for wanting something else, for wanting to live my own life?" His mother was silent, her eyes fixed on him as if seeing him for the first time. Jimin didn't know what to make of it - whether she was feeling remorse or anger or something else entirely. But he knew one thing for sure - he couldn't keep living in silence.
Jimin's voice cracks with emotion with the memory of what could have been,
"Everything was ready for us to start fresh," Jimin said, his voice laced with despair. "We could have escaped from this hell and lived a peaceful life, but no... you just wouldn't give up on him. I begged you on my knees to come with us, but you just wouldn't budge." Jimin knew it was pointless to try and reason with her. He knew that her love for his father had blinded her to the reality of their situation. But that didn't make it any easier to accept."I wish I would have left you behind and escaped with Diva," he continued, his voice filled with bitterness. "I wish I was courageous enough to release myself from the cycles of pain you trapped me in..."
Jimin's love for his mother was unwavering, but her obsession with his father had clouded her judgment and left her incapable of making rational decisions. Despite Damiano's neglect and open displays of hatred towards her, Jiah refused to give up on him. She remained in the same house, as stubborn as a mole, determined to sabotage all of Damiano's relationships.
Jiah would fill Jimin's head with poison, urging him to seek revenge against his stepbrothers. She was consumed by a burning desire to destroy anyone who stood in her way. Her relentless meddling had already cost Taehyung's mother her life and had also driven Jungkook's mother to divorce their father. But Jiah failed to realize that her own son was being consumed by the same fire of vengeance that she had lit.
He looked at his mother, wishing she had seen reason, wishing she had put their happiness first. But her stubbornness had ultimately robbed him of his chance for a better life with the person he loved.
"Why didn't you listen to me?" he asked softly, "Why can't you see what you have been doing to us?" His mother remained silent, her eyes downcast, and Jimin knew that the chances of her ever seeing the truth were slim.
"Your attachment to him cost me everything," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. Memories flooded back to him, memories of a childhood spent sacrificing his own happiness for the sake of his mother's wellbeing. Time and time again, he had put his own desires aside in order to appease her, to make her life easier. But she had never put him first.
In Jiah's eyes, she was always the victim, her world reloved around the injustices she faced at the hands of Damianos. She never accepted that her reality was far from the truth and the cost of her delusion was immeasurable.
For years, Jimin bore the brunt of their turbulent relationship, caught in the crossfire of their perpetual conflict. He became the causality of their war, losing the only person who genuinely loved him.
"I failed her because you failed me, Mom," The image of Diva getting beaten to a pulp flashed in his mind enraging him further. And yet he didn't even have the right to check on her.
Jiah's eyes filled with tears as Jimin spoke, and she reached out to him with a trembling hand but Jimin pulled away, unable to forgive her for the years of neglect and pain she had caused him.
"And I will forever detest you for that"
