The darkness was all-encompassing, wrapping the room in a thick, inky shroud that seemed impenetrable. The only source of light was a meagre, flickering glow that emanated from the fireplace, casting strange, dancing shadows that seemed to move to their own whims. Diva stood in front of the fireplace, her eyes transfixed on the hypnotic dance of the flames. In her hand, she held a stack of notes with words that had somehow managed to penetrate all the walls of restriction mandated on her request.
I'm standing here alone, thinking of you
I'm wondering if you feel it too
This fragile truth that can't hide
The fiery love you've set alight. One by one, she tossed the notes into the fire, watching as the flames eagerly consumed them, erasing every trace of their existence.
I've been hiding it away,
Telling half-truths day by day,
I wish I'd spoken up before,
Instead of letting the pain soar,She reached for the next note that had arrived just in the morning, written similarly; on an ivory rag paper, the cursive writing was immaculate, each stroke executed with precision and care. The scent of lavender filled her senses, a poignant reminder of the night they had shared, ensuing a raging emotion just like the storm outside.
Why couldn't I speak up then,
When I was hurting deep within?
How do I wash away the sins?
Tell me, where do I even begin?"Micasa" She jolted, startled by the sudden intrusion, and the slip of paper fluttered from her grasp, landing silently on the ground. "Jungkook," she gasped, heart racing as she quickly moved to conceal the note underfoot. She spun around, a forced smile on her lips, ready to greet him.
"What are you doing out here?" Jungkook's narrowed his eyes, finding her lounging in their living space when she was supposed to be resting inside their bedroom.
"Did you just call me by another woman's name?" she refuted his inquiry with a question, giving Jungkook no option but to defend himself.
"Goodness gracious, no!" he exclaimed, waving his hands in a frantic attempt to explain himself. He approached her with tentative steps, his eyes beseeching her to believe him, "I had dinner with some international diplomats," he explained "'Mi casa means my home in Sapniol, and you are my home," he added while Diva intently observed him searching for any change in his behavior. When she noticed none, a sigh escaped her lips, opting him out as the person eavesdropping on her conversation earlier.
"Don't tell me you thought...?" Jungkook gasped, shaking his head as if the mere idea of him cheating was too ludicrous to comprehend. He let out a wheeze, thinking that her stiff posture was due to her suspecting him of cheating.
"You know I would never do that," he continued, reaching out to grasp her shoulder as reassurance.
"Well, we never know," she replied, playing along with his charade. She jerked his hands off her and moved away, pretending to be angry. But as she did so, she slipped a small note under the sofa.
Jungkook flashed a straight-faced grin and declared, "Well, we do know this one for sure, Micasa. It's your area of expertise, not mine." Her retort was swift as a lightning bolt, a playful smack across his face with a cushion. Jungkook erupted into chortles, the sound of her jealousy ringing like music to his ears. He lived for those small moments when Diva would put her emotions for him out on display. Watching her strut towards the bedroom, he trailed behind like an eager puppy, his heart swelling with affection.
'Noona,' He called out to her, the syllables rolling off his tongue like a honeyed melody, but she remained deaf to his calls. Diva's footsteps echoed through the room as she limped towards her bed, her recovering body protesting with every movement.
"Maybe we should change your name to Micasa," His attempt at humour fell flat in the air, but he refused to give up."Micasa suits you, we should put that as your name on our wedding certificate," he tried again, hoping to draw her out of her shell, but for some reason, it had a contrasting effect on her.
A momentary stillness fell upon her as she was swept away by the current of her own contemplations. It was as if the world around her had faded into a distant hum, while the intricate workings of her innermost self took centre stage. "Jungkook, do you know my real name?" Her thoughts were articulated into words.
Jungkook was taken aback by her sudden question. "Ahh.." he shortly paused, pondering hard, "Diva," He then replied with confusion plastered on his face.
Diva's lips curved into a melancholic smile, a bittersweet reaction to his ignorance, yet he wasn't the reason behind her sorrow. A few months prior, even she struggled to recall her real name, so she didn't blame him for not knowing. It was the realization that the only person who truly knew her was the very same man who had dealt the final crushing blow to destroy her that filled her with a deep sense of despair.
Her downcasted face made it obvious that he got his answer wrong. His heart sank, recognizing the tinge of woe in the smile she gave. The prick of guilt that followed was sharp, leaving him to confront the uncomfortable truth he didn't know her actual name after being with her his entire life.
To rectify his mistake, Jungkook inched closer to her, positioning himself by her side before posing the question, "What is your given name, Noona?" His first inquiry was met with a deafening silence, prompting him to nudge her once more. "Come on, tell me your real name," he urged, his voice laced with a mixture of curiosity and concern.
"I honestly can't recall," she lied, offering a nonchalant shrug.
Jungkook's disappointment was palpable in 'hmm' he gave as a response. Peeling his clothes off, leaving only his briefs, he slipped beneath the covers. Wrapping his arms around her, he suggested, "We could take a look at your birth certificate?" his hand reaching up to fondle with his favourite treats.
"No shit! Sherlock, "she teased, snuggling deeper into Jungkook's warm embrace. He had to bite his tongue, reminding himself that she was an orphan and that any circumstances surrounding her birthday or personal details were unknown.
"Perhaps it's all for the best," he declared with a confident air, planting a gentle kiss on her forehead in an effort to soothe her troubled mind. "Now you have the freedom to choose any name and any birthdate you desire. You are the master of your own origin," he chimed, striving to lift the spirits of his beloved by highlighting the potential benefits of her unknown past.
"I wish I had the freedom to change my name," With a petulant pout, he expressed, "If I could pick any name I wanted," he mused, absently twirling her hair around his finger, "I'd choose Justine."
"Yeah, yeah, sure, my recommendation is JuanCock," Jungkoook gasped glaring with wide eyes, pretending to take offence at her suggestion "Then your name would be JuanPussy," he pointed out, earning a genuine giggle that put his heart at ease.
The two laid in bed, their bodies tangled together in a warm embrace. The soft glow of the bedside lamp cast a gentle light on the room, illuminating their faces in a way that made them look almost ethereal. It was a moment of complete and utter intimacy, where words were unnecessary and they simply existed together, in a moment of perfect harmony.
They didn't need to say anything to know that they were connected, that they understood each other in a way that was beyond words. It was a silence that spoke volumes, a moment that would stay with them long after the night had passed.
As Jungkook hummed his lover's favorite tune to soothe her to sleep, he planted tender kisses on her forehead from time to time. Though his smile remained persistent on his lips, his mind was preoccupied with the truth he was determined to uncover. The silence from everyone, including his father, and Taehyung's avoidance of him had left him with a sense of unease.
But now he had a starting point.
Once she had drifted off to sleep, he would move the sofa near the fireplace in the living room. After all, hint to the truth had slipped right under it
