The walk to the room was in hushed silence both waiting for the other to explain first. Clinging onto Jungkook's bicep for support, her heart pounded with every deliberate step she took. However, for some reason words that reached her throat remained clogged. Questions lingering in the air remained unasked.
Upon entering their room, Jungkook tenderly assisted her in changing into her soft, comforting attire before settling her into their snug bed. Despite his habit of staying up past midnight, he would go to bed with her. With gentle fingers, he would lovingly stroke her hair, lulling her into a peaceful slumber, and then resume his tasks until weariness eventually embraced him.
In an effort to evade a potentially tense confrontation, Diva averted her gaze from Jungkook. She was determined to drift off into slumber before his nightly rituals concluded but the speculating thoughts on how Jungkook knew about the notes kept her awake.
The memory of her meeting with Damian remained etched in her mind. Despite his hardened exterior, he was still a father who deeply adored all of his sons. By doing so he admitted spoiling them, also with their stature and money, arrogance was natural especially when none of them ever got no for an answer. To top that, Taehyung had always been a troubled child, his mother's absence and the fact it took Damian a few years to even look at the child contributed to his aloof personality. Damian blamed himself for what Taehyung had become but he couldn't bring himself to condemn his own flesh and blood, no matter how despicable his actions had been.
"I know by requesting this I will solidify my position in the depths of hell" Damian's voice trembled with an unmistakable weight of guilt as he uttered the words, but he couldn't ignore the desperate plea that escaped his lips.
"...but for the sake of the very family that provided you shelter and a roof over your head, I beg of you to remain silent"
Revelation to what had transpired in the yacht would shatter the very foundation he had painstakingly built. And so, in exchange for her silence, Damian made a solemn promise to shield both her and Jungkook from Taehyung's malevolent intentions. The terms of their agreement left her at a disadvantage, enduring relentless beatings just to make Taehyung believe in his father's ultimatum. But she paid no mind to her own suffering, as long as Jungkook remained safe and alive by her side. Additionally, witnessing her suffering would torment all three brothers, thus accomplishing multiple goals with a single action.
She often found herself chuckling, perplexed by the lengths she had gone to ensure the well-being of the very man who had caused her initial ruin. It wasn't that she had pardoned him of all the torment he had subjected her to; the wounds still lingered, carved deep within her. Yet, she couldn't deny her own hand in this twisted dance of pain. She, too, had played a role in pushing Jungkook to the edge of his own sanity. Like he always said he was just a boy. A boy in her hand. She should have sought understanding of his circumstances, extending empathy rather than solely focusing on her own grievances. But then she was merely a girl—a tender soul, innocent and lacking even a hint of comprehension about the vast complexities of the world that enveloped her existence. So, she did what she believed was right and so did Jungkook.
However, regardless of everything that had transpired, at the end of the day, they were still a team.
"Vitamins" She felt a nudge and when she opened her eyes, Jungkook was on her side of the bed with a glass in his hand.
A smile crept on her lips recalling how she used to hate his restless meddling in her life. His insistence on making sure she eat healthy used to be one of the points she disliked about him. But the truth was he simply cared too much. Many of his actions had a reason behind them or an event that influenced them. Her overconsumption of unhealthy food on an empty stomach had once hospitalized her for a week which led him to request a nutritionist and ban on junk food. Since a fall from the bicycle had impaired her from walking for months, all the cycles in his possession were destroyed. His overprotectiveness was a result of his wish to never see her ill of any sort. Jungkook just wanted both of them to have a long and healthy life.
