It was now the second half of inning three and the scores were tied at ten points with A.U. having two outs. It was now Deku's turn to bat. Deku's hands shook as he took his baseball bat from Uraraka.
"Are you sure you don't want to hit for me?" Deku asked the girl desperately wanting someone else to play for him.
Uraraka placed her hand on the teen's shoulders and smiled at him. "You know I can't do that. Besides I already pitched for you this inning. This is all on you now." Uraraka said and gently pressed her finger against the boy's chest.
"And we all believe you can do it so...get out there!" Uraraka said as she got behind the boy and pushed him toward the home plate.
Deku stumbled forward and tightly clutched onto his bat as he slowly walked toward the plate. 'Kacchan's pitching this inning, maybe I could just signal him to throw me an easy pitch?' Deku thought but then shook his head.
'No, I'll probably still miss it plus I don't want to use Kacchan to cheat like that, it wouldn't feel right.' Deku thought.
Once he reached the plate, Deku took a deep breath before practicing a couple of swings. As he was doing that he could hear his friends cheering him on.
"Go D-E-K-U~ What does that spell?!" Rody chanted. "Go Deku!" The rest of his friends chimed in. "Go D-E-K-U~ What does that spell?!" Rody shouted. "GO DEKU!" The boy's teammates screamed in encouragement.
Monoma and a few other U.A. members all rolled their eyes in disgust and faked gagged/booed at the cheers. "You got this babes!" Mina cupped her mouth and cheered for the teen. "Take all are good vibes!" Uraraka yelled as she stretched her arms out to the teen. "Show them how amazing you are!" Rody shouted.
Deku smiled slightly at the words of encouragement his friends were giving him. He was still worried about messing up though. The teen took in another deep breath before getting into a batting position.
"Aww, your friends are wishing you luck, good cuz you need some if you want to make your dad happy." Shoda spoke causing Deku's eyes to widen in realization.
'Make my dad happy?' Deku thought. The boy then recalled the words his father left for him in his voicemail.
'...do whatever makes you happy, okay kiddo? Seeing you smile always brightens up my day...'
'Make my dad happy! Ha, that's right as long as I'm happy he will be too. And what's gonna make me happy right now is reuniting Rody with Pino!' Deku thought and for the first time in a long time, he finally relaxed.
'They were right, I was the only one holding myself back. I don't need a lucky charm, I'm ready!' Deku thought and a confident smirk settled across his face as he waited for Bakugou to throw the pitch.
'He seems, different.' Bakugou thought as he stared at the green-haired boy. Bakugou then glanced over at Monoma and saw that the boy was nodding his head while wearing a menacing grin.
Bakugou took a deep breath as he directed his attention back to Deku. He narrowed his eyes at the boy and began to wind up his pitch. He then hurled the ball at Deku.
Instead of the ball hitting the bat, it ended up hitting Deku's hand.
Deku winced as he dropped his bat and bit his lip in pain before slowly dropping onto his knees. Bakugou was wide-eyed as he watched all of Deku's teammates rush over to the boy currently bent over in pain.
The blonde unconsciously began walking toward the teen but was stopped by Dabi and Shigaraki before he could get too close. "What the fuck man!" Dabi yelled in the blonde's face as he gripped the boy's shirt collar. Sero and Kirishima quickly rushed over to Bakugou's defense.
