Xiang Yu was stunned. No wedding? But ... they had been planning for that! Qiu Ling had wanted to be with Jing He for so long and Jing He had finally agreed. It had only been because of his father that they weren't able to make true to their promise. How could the wedding be off the table now?
Tian saw his skeptical expression but didn't say more. Whether Xiang Yu understood or not didn't change anything. The important part was that the person in question certainly wouldn't be able to get over his issues after waking up. No, on the contrary, it seemed likely that they would worsen. After all, the core of this whole matter was the crippling self-doubt he felt that caused him to want to please everyone around him, making him unable to deal with it when he was pulled in two opposing directions.
Xiang Yu finally pulled himself out of his daze and looked at Tian anxiously. "But what should we do then?! We can't just leave it like this. Those two love each other. We have to help them get the happy ending they deserve!"
Yes, when it came to love, he was willing to help others since he himself had been denied the happiness he had wished for. His life as Mo Qing had been tainted by Yan Xia's subsequent actions and as his true self, Xiang Yu, he had never been able to trust again. He had only tasted a bit of the sweetness of what could have been when he reincarnated again for his trial as Hua Lin Yu but even that had been overshadowed by two men who looked like the husband he loved and hated at the same time. Now, with Xin Lan being caught up in his grief and his own identity as a fallen god, there was little hope left.
He didn't want another person to end up like this. Especially not if there was a fine husband waiting for him to marry. No, he couldn't accept that this should be the end for Qiu Ling and Jing He. He just couldn't!
Xiang Yu reached out and tightly grabbed Tian's sleeve. "I have to do something! Surely, there is a way to solve this and have them get married despite everything. His father can't complain any longer and Qiu Ling won't mind. So we only need to help Jing He. You have to know a way to do this!" He stared at him intently, his eyes widened.
In his life, there was nobody he trusted more than Tian. Part of that was the undying love for Xing he displayed and another was his identity as the supreme sovereign of all realms. Of course, Tian's treatment of him throughout the years had naturally added to it. It wouldn't be wrong to say that he worshiped him. So in his mind, if there was one person who could solve everything, it would be Tian.
The supreme sovereign hummed in response but it was hard to make out what the low sound was supposed to mean.
Xiang Yu felt even more anxious. "What is it? Is there really no way? Can't we convince him somehow? How about getting Qiu Ling to come here?" In fact, Qiu Ling wasn't even awake but he was sure that Tian could do something about that. And if Jing He saw Qiu Ling ... maybe it could still work?
Tian didn't speak directly. He simply looked at Xiang Yu as if he was considering something. Finally, he straightened up and pulled Xiang Yu back up as well. "It isn't impossible but it wouldn't be easy. The solution is in nobody else but the crown prince of the Nine Heavens himself. You can't change his situation and his husband-to-be can't either."
"So is there nothing we can do?" Xiang Yu's shoulders drooped. He had been so sure that there had to be a way. But if even Tian couldn't think of one ...
Tian faintly tilted his head, humming faintly. "I didn't say that. I just said that there is nothing you can do about this. He needs to do it himself. It is just ... the process isn't easy and it is hard to say whether he has what it takes."
Xiang Yu blinked his eyes in a daze. "That ... that doesn't sound good. Is there really nothing we can do? Like ... like just helping out?" No matter how small his contribution, he'd happily try if it meant that Jing He and Qiu Ling could be reunited even a moment sooner.
Tian continued to look at him and finally faintly raised his brows. "These days, have you taken a look in the mirror?"
"Ah?" Xiang Yu stared at him dumbfounded. What did his looking in a mirror have to do with Jing He and Qiu Ling's wedding ceremony? Still, since he trusted Tian, he honestly shook his head. "No, I haven't. I think the last time should have been during my trial." He didn't like looking at mirrors or really seeing his reflection anywhere. It only reminded him of what he was and how he had become like this. It never was a welcome reminder.
"You should. Let me help you take that off." Tian reached up and gently removed the jewelry that covered Xiang Yu's forehead, handing it to him. With a wave of his hand, a crystal mirror appeared in the air next to them, throwing back Xiang Yu's image.
The little fallen god stiffened and almost wanted to turn away. Seeing as Tian had deliberately asked though, he couldn't help but take a quick look though. Then, he stared at his own face in a daze. For a while, his thoughts couldn't catch up but then, he turned back to Tian with a puzzled expression. "Why has my Mark of Wisdom changed? It didn't look like this before!"
Yes, as odd as it seemed, his Mark of Wisdom had somehow changed since the last time he took a look. As for how and when ... he really couldn't say but he felt that there had to be a reason for this and he couldn't help but panic when he tried to imagine what that might be. After all, gaining this mark had been a painful process. He really was afraid of what a change would mean now.
