Bai Mu took a shaky breath, trying not to make too much out of this. Anyway, just because the opportunity was in front of him, there was no way to say how it would turn out. While he was optimistic, he naturally hadn't overheard what Qiang Yan just said about Jing He's father. Although then again, Qiu Ling would also be there so it shouldn't get that bad. There would at least be people on their side.
Making up his mind, he finally nodded. "I would like that. I ... do have to ask Ah Huang first though. She still has a lot of effort to put in to gain a higher cultivation level."
At this point, Nie Huang had reached the stage at which she wouldn't age any longer so his biggest fear had been put to rest. Still, after his own experience of being locked up for years by the demon-hunting sects in the human realm, he understood very well that only strength could protect you.
At her current level which wasn't even halfway to being an ascended deity, she couldn't contend even with the weakest of people in the immortal realms. That thought still scared him. He wanted her to be able to protect herself if he wasn't around or at least have a decent chance of getting away. He himself was at that point but Nie Huang still had a long way to go.
Qiang Yan nodded. "It's important that she does. Even if it's not about that, it's alright to say no though. While I would love to have the two of you here, it isn't an easy situation and I know it might be too much all at once. Just talk it over with her and slowly decide. Even if it's not this time, you'll always be welcome here. I hope you know that."
Bai Mu inclined his head. "I'll keep it in mind. Don't worry." He wasn't sure what else to say and glanced over his shoulder toward where Nie Huang was practicing. "Well, I'll go and talk to her immediately. I'll get back in touch as soon as we've made our decision."
"Do that."
They both didn't know how to continue so they could only awkwardly bid farewell to each other.
Qiang Yan exhaled slowly after the projection atop the transmission stone collapsed. This ... had probably gone better than he had hoped for? He originally hadn't known if he should ask at all but now, Bai Mu had even said that he would like to move in.
Qiang Yan smiled brightly as he put away the transmission stone and immediately made his way over to the Heavenly Emperor's palace. Even though it wasn't set in stone yet that Bai Mu and Nie Huang would also move in with them, he should prepare well in advance. It wouldn't do for the two of them to arrive only to find that they hadn't yet been expected.
This way, Qiang Yan arrived at the palace in high spirits. He stepped into the throne room and glanced into the study when he didn't see Rong Su. His brother-in-law was currently sitting at the desk in there, his lips pursed. Most likely, he was unhappy again either because Qiu Ling had already arrived and they had argued or maybe his sister was already here but hadn't reacted well to his previous behavior. Anyway, he didn't want to deal with that right now.
Qiang Yan lightened his steps and left the throne room, grabbing the nearest servant to ask about his sister. It took some time to find out but finally, he heard that she had gone to see Qiu Ling who had indeed already made his way over to the Nine Heavens. Qiang Yan hummed and went to the room himself, knocking on the door.
Inside, Bai Fen and Qiu Ling had just finished discussing what decision Jing He was more likely to make while alone in the High Heavens. Hearing the knock on the door, both of them froze. What they had just said wasn't an issue but they couldn't help but think of their previous topics of discussion and both felt a bit odd. Even if nobody could hear it, being interrupted at that time would have been bad.
Qiu Ling hurriedly cleared his throat to get rid of the awkwardness and then raised his voice, calling out for the person outside to come in.
Qiang Yan opened the door and poked his head into the room, smiling brightly when he saw Bai Fen and Qiu Ling sitting together at the table. "So you really were here." He stepped into the room and closed the door behind him, but didn't go over. "I just contacted Bai Mu to ask whether he and Nie Huang want to join us. He said he'd discuss it with her and then get back to me but I figured I'd have the servants prepare a room first so I wanted to see where everyone else would stay."
Bai Fen nodded and poured herself a cup of tea. "I actually haven't decided yet. I went to see Qiu Ling first before I figured Rong Su wouldn't have done a good job receiving him."
Qiang Yan hummed. "I saw him moping in his study so I can imagine how that went."
The corners of Bai Fen's mouth quirked up but she refrained to comment. After what she had just talked to Qiu Ling about, she really didn't feel like considering her husband's situation much. Instead, she was much more interested in making sure the rest of the family was comfortable. "Your idea isn't bad. Let's just all pick a room on this corridor. Your son and his fiancee know Qiu Ling already so it's best to give them the room right next to him. The two of us can take the two rooms on the opposite side."
Qiang Yan nodded. "Then I'll arrange all three of them. Your guards ..." He looked at Qiu Ling, raising his brows. Some of them would definitely stay in the palace as well and so would adviser An Bai, most likely. Those should be considered as well.
Qiu Ling hummed but didn't care much. I don't know how many there will be so let's wait until they're here. Just arrange for you guys first."
Qiang Yan also felt that this was for the best so he nodded and left the room again, taking care of the logistics.
