Xin Lan gathered Xiang Yu into his arms when he was done, his gaze resting on the lower half of his face he could still see. There seemed to be a light smile on the lips of the fallen god as if he had been happy when he went on this new trial. Well, he had probably been. Otherwise, why make this decision?
He shook his head and got to his feet, not wanting to think about it any longer. You really couldn't judge the decisions of a fallen god with common sense. What Xiang Yu had thought or not ... he couldn't be sure and he shouldn't think about it either. No, he should focus on what he could do to ensure his body's safety and then try to come up with a way to find him in the mortal realm.
Having made up his mind, Xin Lan left his house. His gaze slipped to the grave not far away and his eyelids drooped. Hua Lin Yu ... It had only been a few weeks since he left and now, another trial was about to begin. Once again, the two of them might entangle in the mortal realm. If it was his Xiao Yu, what would he think about that?
Xin Lan closed his eyes, his heart squeezing painfully. To be honest, he couldn't tell. Even though he had genuinely loved Hua Lin Yu, the actual time they had spent together was only a few years. Much of that had also been spent on getting to know the world outside, instead of getting to know each other. Maybe that had been the problem.
He forced himself to open his eyes again, pulled Xiang Yu closer to his chest, and then flew up into the air, leaving his home behind. Earlier, he hadn't been sure where to go but thinking of Hua Lin Yu and the time in the mortal realm again, he remembered that there was one place that might be suitable. Well, in fact, there should be two: the Hua family's estate and the Jiang Yi Sect.
Yes, the people in both of these places loved Hua Lin Yu just as much as he did. Knowing that he was gone and that he had now another chance at life but that his true body needed to be kept safe ... he didn't doubt that they would help him keep an eye on it.
Of course, the Hua family was a slightly safer bet compared to the Jian Yi Sect. Thinking of Fei Bai Mu, he also knew that this person was somebody who considered more. For the big picture, she might try and get rid of Xiang Yu. He couldn't be sure but even if the chance was small, he'd rather not risk it. Thus, it was much better to go to the Hua family.
Xin Lan soon left the dragon realm behind and entered the mortal realm. Over here, several decades had passed since Hua Lin Yu's death. The pain of losing him ... it might have lessened at least a little. Even if his family would never forget him and would always be reluctant thinking of how he had left them behind much too early, they should at least have come to terms with it and shouldn't freak out too much when he carried a fallen god over. Well, he hoped so at least.
Even though it had been a few decades, the Hua family's estate was pretty much the same as before. Even the city close by had only changed a little. While the mortal realm was prone to change, in places where cultivators resided, those happened much slower than elsewhere. Also, bigger changes took more time so a few years were nothing. The fall of kingdoms usually also took a century at least and the mountains and seas would not shift in less than a millennia. Thus, the world right now was still the same world his Xiao Yu had been living in.
Xin Lan's feelings were complicated as he landed in front of the Hua family's gate. He didn't barge straight in. After all, his relationship with Hua Lin Yu had been strained toward the end and by now, the person had already left. There was no way to say how exactly they would react.
The guards and servants in the estate were all cultivators or practitioners as well. They might not be family members of the Hua family but usually, for this kind of big cultivation family, the people who joined them profited almost as much as they would by joining a sect. So usually, they wouldn't easily leave again. As a result, the people on guard this day had naturally seen Xin Lan.
"It's the second young master's fiance!" One of them couldn't help but widen his eyes and make a fuss as soon as he recognized Xin Lan. How long had it been since they saw this person? They had only heard rumors of the second young master's passing but never seen the body being brought back or his fiance appear. Now, Xin Lan was suddenly back and carried what seemed to be a youth in his arms. They couldn't help but have some ridiculous hope when they saw this image.
Xin Lan inclined his head even though his heart squeezed in pain at the reminder of his relationship with Hua Lin Yu. He tried not to let it bother him and motioned at the estate behind the guards. "Is Hua Lin Rong inside?"
"Yes, yes, of course!" The man who had spoken before hurriedly opened the gate for him. "Should we go and inform him?" Since it was basically a family member, the usual rules hardly applied so he felt that it was better to ask.
Xin Lan glanced at the person still being held in his arms and finally nodded. "Yes. Tell him I'll wait in Xiao Yu's courtyard." Anyway, he couldn't openly carry this person around everywhere. It was better to go to a place that was a little more secluded.
